Serbia's military stages training drill, days after incident in Kosovo
PASULJANSKE LIVADE, Serbia (Reuters) - Under the keen eye of President Aleksandar Vucic and foreign diplomats, Serbia’s military flexed its muscles on Thursday, firing live ordnance in a mock attack on insurgent positions at a training ground east of Belgrade.
The training drill, dubbed Synergy 2018, came three days after Kosovo police used force to scatter Serb protesters in the town of Kosovska Mitrovica in Kosovo’s restive North and briefly detained a Serbian government official. The incident soured already tense ties between Serbia and Kosovo, its former southern province which declared independence in 2008 after a bloody war a decade earlier. Army commander Gen. Ljubisa Dikovic said the exercise, involving more than 900 troops, was a part of training plans for 2018. “We have always had good soldiers, we want to have more of them ... we want them to be even better trained,” Vucic told reporters at the Pasuljanske Livade training range. Serbia’s military budget in 2018 stood at 70.5 billion dinars (595 million euros), 23.6 percent more than last year. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-s...-idUSKBN1H5234 |
What's funny is Serbia's military spending is about 2% of the GDP, where the US spends around 3.3% of GDP.
I guess Cruci is too busy putting quotes around the word """"defense"""" budget to notice :1orglaugh |

The situation is totally different than what you see in media. Reality says that back in 1999 war with NATO, there were over 100 000 soldiers ready for battle plus reserves. Today, complete Serbian army has around 40K people together with the military orchestra and all those women that suddenly became part of an army. That means they can't defend shit, especially surrounded by NATO countries. On the top of that, the president is placed on power and supported by NATO, brutally stealing elections and totally ruining democratic institutions in the country. All good as long as he works for the those that put him on power. It is a farce, a puppet regime is working against own people and country. For example, they decided to go out of UN and resolution 1244 to resolve Kosovo situation, and transferred it to local negotiations, effectively losing Russian and Chinese support, their strongest allies. Basically, it is a treason and this is why they need such moves to maximally cover what they are doing in front of their naive people. No one would go to war there anymore because politicians trade military losses and success for territories easily (like in Croatia), totally devaluating lives and costs. While we speak, Albanians are buying properties in south Serbia which means a new Kosovo scenario in next 30 years or so. |
