Thinking of getting a second dog, Please recommend breed you like

The title says it all, I've had a Mastiff, a great Dane and a few bastards. Not sure what to get. The current one is a bastard, and one of the best i've had. So recommend me the one you like...

CurrentlySober 04-04-2018 09:10 AM

Smiley 04-04-2018 09:19 AM

Alaskan Malamute or a Samoyed...those are on my list at the moment....

but a bastard can be good as well...ive had plenty of those as well as Labs...Basset hounds are fun as well...have one in the office...if you want a chill lazy dog..LOL

GAMEFINEST 04-04-2018 09:21 AM

Poodle or a doodle lol

LetterTwenty7 04-04-2018 09:30 AM

Nice, I see you like animals. :) I got two German Shepherds, and I can't imagine spending time with any other breed, but that's just my 2 cents.

pimpmaster9000 04-04-2018 09:33 AM

go to a shelter and adopt one...do not buy from breeders...as for what breed, mastifs and great danes are for experienced owners, you need to walk them a lot and they have tons of trouble when they grow old...all big heavy dogs do...if you want a low maintenance dog get a mix...

Itchy 04-04-2018 09:47 AM

Boxers :)

Small dog: shiztsu, King Charles spaniel or cocker spaniel
Large dog: golden retriever

PR_Glen 04-04-2018 10:34 AM

I'm partial to curley coated retrievers myself but they are hard to come across and longer waiting lists.

yeah none of that is true and all myth. All dogs and all breeds are just as susceptible to health variances like any other living creature. Whether you go to a breeder or not changes nothing. I have seen good things with shelters and I have heard horror stories with shelters. I have seen amazing things with top breeders and horrific things with top breeders with regards to practices and how they treat the animals.

bronco67 04-04-2018 11:08 AM

If you don't know what you like, then maybe you should stick with the dogs you have.

I have a Frenchie, English Bulldog and a Beagle. LOVE the Frenchies attitude but they can have spine issues so probably not the best to have with playing with bigger dogs.

pornguy 04-04-2018 11:56 AM

Never really liked small dogs. Unitl we got one for my son. She is a Chihuahua and adorable. Looks like a doberman and will attack anything 100 times her size.

With people she is very nervous but after a few minutes she warms up and loves you.

Does not really growl or bark at people unless they come into the yard.

starling 04-04-2018 12:02 PM

My Rottweiler was the best dog I had. So loving and loyal. The only thing is they don't live ling compared to other breeds

OneHungLo 04-04-2018 12:14 PM

I'd personally go with the GSD. Very smart, awesome protection. They are very good family dogs. They are highly intelligent and need to be stimulated both mentally and physically or they can get into shit they shouldn't. Another thing is they shed like crazy, so be prepared for lots of brushing and vacuuming.

Right now I have an Italian Greyhound. He's cute and he's a little mush ball who constantly craves your attention, but he's also a little nightmare. The IG has broken both legs so far (they are notorious for breaking them) which cost me $8k in vet bills, and he still (after 2 years) is still not fully housebroken. They HATE going out in any inclement weather. I'm talking if the wind is blowing too hard or it's sprinkling, they don't wanna go.

bloggerz 04-04-2018 01:22 PM

Currently have a pug and he's awesome :thumbsup

I've had a pitbull, golden retriever, cockerspaniel, and daschund but by far the best dog out of all these is the pug.

Marshall - our 2yr old shepweiler.

Owned several dogs over the years...gotta say this one's among the very best. Great disposition, awesome guard dog.

Can't go wrong with German shepherds as long as the dog gets regular exercise...:2 cents:

Chihuahua's with the doberman trait looks so damn cute.

many animals like company, best to give them the love they need :thumbsup

+1 for adoption. There are millions of homeless dogs who would love a good home. Contributing to breeders fuels their desire to continue breeding, which is good for no one.

adultchatpay 04-05-2018 01:38 AM

Go for a small breed, stress reliever, easy maintenance and they are not bastards.
Try Shitzou.

NewNick 04-05-2018 04:38 AM

It depends what you want the dog for - these 2 are working dogs, they have never been allowed in the house. ( Wirehaired Vizla )

They are intelligent loyal and very active.

Although I dont think I would want a Vizla for a house dog. I would get a Teckel.

I agree ,they tend to live longer. They have less issues and tend to be smarter. Also get a rescue, my four were all rescues and all great dogs.

Agreed. My Rottie is 4 and is 160lbs. He's European breed, not American. They have a shorter snout, squared off head and are usually more compact, more muscular and larger than their American cousins. But they can be expensive and hard to find.

Absolutely the best dog, calm, relaxed, rarely barks, loves people. Gentle with kids and other animals.

Downside, because if the short snout, his snoring is earth rattling.

hdbuilder 04-05-2018 09:19 AM

Thanks everyone, the German Shepard seems to be popular...

TheDynasty 04-05-2018 10:02 AM

He's fat.

A lot of people here keep wolf dogs. If you're afraid of being robbed or burgled. They will keep anything out. And good with kids.

Just that Boxers need it more. Not a dog to leave on its own especially when under 5.

I would trade my 1 year old Chocolate Lab for the world.

Yes, it's a must have for large dogs that like to pull a lot. My dog would choke himself and wouldn't stop for anything. He's 100+ lbs and Gentle Leader has worked great. :thumbsup
