Paul Ryan not seeking re-election
 

This is huge news and a huge blow for republicans. This basically guarantees the house goes to democrats, Trump will be impeached (not removed). Trump 2020 just got a whole lot less possible.

Yep, I'd say Trump is more of an independent. Nature of the 2 party system. You have to pick one or the other and many times that pick is made for you. As in you make a switch to fill a seat.

Trump re-election. If Paul Ryan resigns he will not be able to run for president. He probably just believes he will lose. He may have done some internal polling and that mustache guy is winning.

If Trump loses the House he *will* be impeached. He will not be removed, as I personally see it, but he will be gelded (for the dummies, that means his nuts will be removed).

This is far worse for him than Mueller. It means the House believes a wave is coming. I never count Trump out, but it is hard to see how he keeps the republicans in line after this.

Ryan has been a thorn in Trumps side since day one. He will not be missed by Trump.

I hear what you're saying, but it appears that Trump voters will not turn out for candidates that are not Trump. I gather you are a Trump supporter, you must understand that if the house goes Democrat Trump will be impeached. Ryan is not resigning because he doesn't get along with Trump - he is resigning because he believes he is going to lose.

At the end of the day, the voters don't make laws, they elect officials to do it. The republicans want to stay in office. If they can't raise money because people believe they are going to lose, they will leave office. It appears the national mood is 10 - 15% more democrat leaning OR republicans are not turning out. Either way, Trump is already hobbled by the media, so he will not be like Clinton and recover. He will continue to be attacked and will therefore probably lose in 2020 or choose not to run.

Again, Trump is smarter than I am. I try not to underestimate him. But what path does he have?

Dems will do what they always do and overestimate their hand and run someone like Kamala Harris thinking they are so smart. Look at Bladewire, the guy is already touting her as the next great candidate. She will hands down be a disaster.

Incumbency is a big advantage. People vote for "the devil you know". If his departure leads other Republicans to retire, as is likely, then it gives the Democrats a much greater change to take the House. No guarantee but it helps them.

The establishment is willing to throw the elections to get rid of Trump if they have to. But they are calculating there the same way they calculated 2016. Just watch the Zuckerberg testimony to see that they hope to be in full control of the narrative by election time. They keep rehashing this.

What options does he have? The investigations going on in the background that no one (MSM) is really talking about. Trump is playing along to get along until he can drop those in their lap. Keep in mind the person who warned him about Obama's spying operations is sitting at the helm of the intelligence apparatus'. He sees everything. He is the man behind the curtain. He is set to retire soon. I don't think he will be leaving a job unfinished.

There is a very solid Democrat choice already who has been out raising Ryan for his campaign fund. That's the reason Ryan is calling it quits, because he just like other Republicans who are scared to run and lose.. They know what's coming..

Ryan's contender is out raising him in campaign money.. The guy is former military, a steal worker and a head of his local union and is from ooutside the beltway.. it's very doubtful Republicans can find anyone better than that guy.

Ryan's district is purple, it voted Obama previously.. Ryan was likely to get beat by this guy hence the reason Ryan is bailing out..

If there is a republican with a talent for strategy they will cleave as closely as possible to Trump, support him in everything and present a united front, like Gaetz. That doesn't seem to be happening. Where is Gingrich, where is Coulter, where is Drudge? They seem to be dismayed and befuddled.

I have argued with crockett many times on this board but he is 100% correct here. The district is not even remotely a safe one. It may have been for Ryan, with his advantage of incumbancy, but if even he assumes he'll lose we should probably accept that as true.

He's played the "pissed at Sessions" role all along. It has to be that way or when they actually do do something it appears politically motivated and coordinated. IE McCabe's firing. His firing also reveals an investigation going on for a lot longer than most believe.

The establishment doesn't care what happens to Trump as long as their control is left untouched. Graham supposedly thinks the DOJ, FBI etc broke many laws yet he trusts the same people who actually broke those law to continue on? Mueller's entire staff was involved in that shit. 2 of them. Page and Strzok are key to all of the evidence.. They documented it.. Muellers "investigation" is all about protecting the status quo... Keeping Trump in check.. Nothing about Russia.

Exactly. When Trump was elected Ryan had two huge goals: pass a big tax cut and kill Obamacare. He got one of the two and now he is bailing before the shit hits the fan. Personally, I think we will see him run for Governor (or President depending on how the tax cut/massive debt thing works out) but for now he is going to keep his head down and let Trump catch the shit.
