What a way to die. Sad Model Rebecca Zeni found dead in Georgia, eaten alive by scabies "The autopsy report shows the cause of death as “septicemia due to crusted scabies.” State health officials were notified about a scabies outbreak at the nursing home multiple times, but did not inspect the LaFayette, Ga. facility. A forensic pathologist who reviewed the case estimates millions of parasitic mites essentially ate Zeni alive over several months or possibly years. Zeni’s family say their mother lived the American dream. She worked in a naval yard during World War II; modeled in New York City, and worked at a TV station in Chicago. According to a pending lawsuit filed by the family, 93-year-old Rebecca Zeni died in 2015 from scabies at the facility. " |

Not a single CNA noticed her skin changes? Family didn’t notice? Shit, in nine years at the nursing home they’d skin check daily when washing me. Scratch an itch? Reported. Little scab noticed? Noted and pic taken.
That poor woman must have been in misery. Either they ignored her crying out or thought it was just old age. Having spent nine years in the home, I can attest to abuse, neglect, and much more. Luckily I had a mom who’d raise hell when things were done wrong or weren’t done. Family needs to be there to keep an eye on things. Many times I heard things like, “better clean that up or her mom will bitch about it.” Mom said she didn’t care, her job was to make sure I was taken care of and if they didn’t like her, kakamun (Yiddish saying). I nearly died and she’d not lose me to some inept care by lazy, uncaring people. A nursing home one town over had a death a few years ago. Woman was smothered by her roommate. Roommate complained about the noise and snoring but was ignored. 92-year-old decided to fix it herself. I blame the Home who ignored the problem. |
