The Doors

Any fans here? I’m curious why they had such a following. I know Jim Morrison was a great writer, but they had a singer, drummer and decent guitarist and keyboard player. NO bass, yet are voted one of the top bands of all times.

I listened carefully and their music isn’t awesome. It’s like a cover band at a cheap bar. Singer is great, lyrics are great but musically they’re amateurs.

Jim was sexy but ... I just don’t get it. No long amazing guitar solos, no guest musicians, just a mesmerizing singer.

“Although the Doors' active career ended in 1973, their popularity has persisted. According to the RIAA, they have sold 33 million certified units in the US and over 100 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling bands of all time. The Doors have been listed as one of the greatest artists of all time by many magazines, including Rolling Stone, which ranked them 41st on its list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".”

Can anyone who is a fan tell me what draws you to them?

I always hear that Jim died of a drug overdose. Yet tonight I read that no autopsy was done in France and no foul play and assumption is drink and drugs. I’m floored that no one in the USA did an autopsy. Shocked that Ray Manzarek died in 2013, too.

(And, yes, I realize that not many people are old enough to remember them. I wasn’t around then but love classic rock).

Why would someone do an autopsy in the USA when he was buried in France?

USA citizen and the family wants to know. He’s a celebrity and cause of death matters

Manzarek emulated bass on his keyboards.

Morrison just didn't give a shit, that was his appeal.

His family?

He gave ZERO fucks about his family.

BTW.. His official cause of death was a heart attack.

"Pursuant to French law, no autopsy was performed because the medical examiner claimed to have found no evidence of foul play. The absence of an official autopsy and the death certificate's having no reason of death besides heart failure, have left many questions regarding the cause of death. "

They could only guess if no autopsy was done. Obviously his heart failed.

REM was a good band but not poetic lyrics IMHO. Of my generation I'd say ... Carole King was prolific but not poetic. NWA was, in my eyes. They told the truth about life in the 'hood, the police there, life as a negro male (not using the other word). They made you think and told the truth the only way they could.

There weren't gifted songwriters that I can think of offhand. Each night I lay in bed 3-4 hours until I sleep. Tonight I'll think about this.

The bible is interpreted differently by people. It's a history lesson, a teaching guide, a bunch of nonsense or a poetic litany of words. Each religion has a version from the Koran to the Old Testament (Jews) to the New Testament (Christians).

It was written by Jesus, God, Allah and whomever else your religion says
