The Tesla Semi Is Dead.

He was trying to move too fast with that and I wasnt convinced he could make a real world usable truck. There is another company that has a better design for a actual long distance electric semi. They use compressed hydrogen to charge the batteries. The truck runs on electric but is recharged by hydrogen that can be refilled fairly fast. The prototype supposedly has a thousand mile range.

I like Musk and what he's doing, but he needs to focus on getting the car production right and profitable before trying to jump to something like that.

Imo with big Trucks there has to be a bridge of two techs to make them work. Even diesel electric would be a viable option as a stepping stone. You could have the electeic driveline but use diesel generator to fast charge the batteries. There wouldnt be a need to reinvent the refuel networks as they could use normal truck fueling but would still lower emissions and burn less fuel.

Tesla, Trump, & Tariffs: China Holds The Key

Tesla is lucky it is alive.

That's weird because Tesla received these orders:

Truck Rental company 50 Trucks: https://electrek.co/2018/04/06/tesla...asing-company/

Budweiser, 40 Trucks: https://electrek.co/2017/12/07/tesla...ectric-trucks/

UPS, 125 Trucks: https://electrek.co/2017/12/19/tesla...ic-trucks-ups/

Bee'ah (UAE) 50 Trucks: https://electrek.co/2018/01/14/tesla...uck-pre-order/

And smaller companies are making orders too, just not getting much attention: https://electrek.co/2018/04/23/tesla...der-earth-day/

I wonder who's right?

I'd still bet on Tesla. While it's true they are just about always late, they still always manage to deliver.

Tesla is good at taking the orders, not so good at filling the orders.

I would hope the analyst is right and Musk is focusing on removing automated production entirely and
replacing it with more human production to get model 3s out the door and not on semi dev. He can fiddle with automation later, but bad idea to commit to 100s of thousands of model 3s with unproven automation and a history of failed automation in this industry.

I'd invest in pork rinds if I was you. Maybe even the pork cracklins futures market. The pork skins market is dead though stay far far away 🤪 :2 cents:

They did the same exact thing 10 years ago.

His biography is pretty interesting.

he is an interesting character, I agree. I'm torn on what I think about him though.

One thing I am certain about though is he is more interested in space travel/spaceX than he is building cars.

His #1 goal in life is Mars.

Every project he does is designed around building technology towards that goal.

Batteries, space exploration, digging, etc.

hah, yes. It's also funny how he had nothing to do with inventing paypal. His company was bought by paypal after paypal invented their payment solution.
