Have X-Boxs and Play Stations Plateaued?

Used to hear a lot about them a while back. Both in mainstream media, on TV and even here on GFY... Never seem to hear much about them theses days...

MrBottomTooth 05-13-2018 01:14 PM

They're still doing good. For example the new God of War on ps4 sold 3.1 million units in 3 days.

CurrentlySober 05-13-2018 01:29 PM

Interesting. I dont seem to see any adverts for them anymore on TV. Just adverts for the Nintendo Handheld thing with the removable joypads...

I asked my Son about it earlier. He has a PS4. He said he doesn't bother with it much now cause all the games have to installed and its always wanting to spend hours doing updates and stuff. I mean, I dont have one myself so no personal experience, but he says its got over complicated now...

CjTheFish 05-13-2018 01:41 PM

HUH.

They are the two top consoles in the entire world. MILLIONS of people own them. How would they not be doing good?

Ya the downloading has gotten ridiculous. I can stick in a brand new game I bought and be faced with a 32 gb download. On my shitty internet I'll have to wait 24 hours before I can even play it.

Rochard 05-13-2018 08:50 PM

I don't understand the need for such gaming consoles.

I've had them all. I started with Atari, then Nintendo, Sony Genesis, XBox.... Fuck this. Every other year you have to "upgrade" to a new system. Depending on which system you got, you might not be able to play some of the games. A few years ago a group of gamers from the Medium Pimping board wanted me to get an Xbox so I can play Call Of Duty with them. I thought to myself before I invest $500 into yet another game console, let's try the PC version first. I mean, I have a massive Alienware computer with two graphics card so I should be able to handle it... Bought the PC version, loved it. Went out and bought the Xbox and all of the gear... And it sucked. There was no control over the servers. This was 2008 during the election and kids would come onto maps just to chat about Obama and it's like I don't need to hear this shit.

Since 2008 I've been playing Call Of Duty on PC. I've been in a clan all of this time. We play one version of COD, but we have a special system where we can play ALL maps and ALL weapons. We pay for the server - $80 a month spread out over forty or so clan members - so we control the server, set the rules, and we can kick or ban people as we see fit.

Why go out and buy a brand new system every other year? Buy a PC and play the PC games and be done with it.

If you had to buy them every other year like you said I would agree, but you don't. The ps4 has been out since 2013, for example. The previous system, the ps3, came out in 2006, and wasn't replaced until the launch of the ps4. Not any different than buying a new video card to play the latest games. Actually it's quite a bit cheaper.

Plus there's a lot of console exclusives that never show up on pc.

this is why I left legit gaming and turned to piracy...mother fucking updates...my PC had become an update machine...everything from windows to origin/battlenet to the games themselves needs to mother fucking update...layers of updates...

I bet consumer protection laws will be passed in the future giving you the right to pass on this shit...it is MY computer, MY windows, MY game and I should be able to do with it as I wish...imagine buying a car and being like "wait for 30 min for your car to update then you can drive"

fuck that...I am not giving them another penny...piracy is the way to go :2 cents:

I didn't say that they were not doing good. Just that I never hear much talk about them anymore, nor see adverts for them on TV or hear people talking about games in the same way that they used too...

This might be true... But for a while it just seemed like very other year there was a new gaming console and we had to run out and buy it.

I've had my PC since 2009 or so. It can still play any game I want.

It is true, yes games on PC are better graphics and better frame rates. But not everyone can afford a high end gaming computer, so a console for $500 every 5 years isn't a terrible deal. Also as mentioned some games are only on said Console.

Since 2009 - You said it best. Any game you want, Your PC is not good enough to play any of the new big name games even remotely at a good graphics level today.

This was pretty much during the "bit" era. Every year or two companies would effectively double the bit rate of the previous generation console. It hasnt been like that since the N64 days.

The time differential between PS3 and PS4 releases is 7 years. and between xbox 360 and xbox one 8 years.

SBJ 05-14-2018 12:11 PM

I still have the 1st gen PS3 that I bought in 2006. I only use it to play blu ray movies though and that is proly why it still works. I'm not much of a gamer but I do have the Wii U I picked up in 2014 and I enjoy Wii bowling while I drink some nights.

Scott McD 05-14-2018 12:26 PM

Any time i switch my PS4 on it just wants to do another update. For fuck knows what. So instead of me getting a quick 30mins playing time, the game wants to take 45mins and another chunk of memory doing some sort of update.

I buy a new game and it says it can't be installed because not enough space on console. I have about 3 games on it. The rest i have deleted to make memory space over the years. Amazing how PS3 never had this problem. It's actually ridiculous now...

Shouldnt be like that. The drives in the newer systems are huge compared to what the PS3 offered. Unless you got a low model.

I suspect maybe it's some games he played via disk a while ago. Not sure if you know, but games now even when played Via CD install the majority of itself on your HDD. I have the lowest end Ps4 and have far more than 3 whole games on my HDD.

Is there a setting that causes you to save your game videos automatically? could be something like that as well. If you didn't know the PS4 always records the last 15 minutes of gameplay, normally you have to hit share button and then square to save it to the HDD otherwise like a PVR it just records over it with the new footage. Maybe you have a lot saved to capture gallery? By the way you wrote your post, I doubt you are the type to save footage but just another idea. MCD

Constant Phil 05-14-2018 12:58 PM

Nah not a big game footage saver. What im saying is i dont understand how scott ran out of room with only 3 games. Sounds like something isnt right on his end. Not mine :)

Thanks
