School shootings are different and a much more difficult issue to sort out and solve.

Don't worry, the police will solve this by beating and shooting more people.

Here are a few suggestions that may go someway to help reduce the number of incidents in schools.

Tougher background checks including mental health assessment.

Rule out anyone with a drug, assault or domestic violence convictions from owning a gun ever !!

Limit the availability of assault rifles to people over the age of 21 or those currently serving in the armed forces.

Hold parents accountable for not securing weapons in the home. ( ie keep all guns in a safe or locked cabinet )

Here's a sociologist's view on the matter, he likens it to a slow motion riot of copy cat shooters with higher and higher thresholds of violence. i.e. how a riot starts, 1 instigator throws a rock through a window, someone sees him do it and says to himself, if he did it then I can do it too. another guy sees those TWO guys throwing rocks and says if those two guys are doing it, then I can do it to.

The shooting in Texas was eye opening, and we should learn a number of things from it.

The biggest thing we should learn is that armed officers are clearly not a solution. We had an armed officer in Florida, who was completely ineffective. In Texas we had two armed officers, and if I understand correctly they engaged the shooter for over thirty minutes. People watch way too much TV and think a good guy with a gun can quickly dispatch a bad guy with a gun, and it just doesn't work that way. Armed officers is a response to the problem, not a solution. But the time armed officers are aware of the situation it's too late.

Locking down schools isn't going to be a solution either. You can lock it down so that there is only one way in, through a metal detector and an armed guard and... All a gunman would need to do is show up when school lets out and hundreds and hundreds of kids are trying to get into hundreds of cars while the parking lot is at a standstill because of gridlock.

The ONLY solutions here is handling the mental health crisis and a massive reduction of firearms.

Until then this will continue.

The government has pistols, shotguns and rifles listed as assault weapons, the reason is they want to take away all guns.
