the lawsuit seeks monetary compensation for the families, again i hope he's a huge dumbass and left his real money maker out in the open, otherwise there is no legal jeopardy of a total web and radio shutdown of alex jones due to defamation of character, first amendment you know.

I don't believe you can just get someone's domains and radio show etc simply due to defamation. Now if he loses and can't pay, then they can potentially try and come after assets but that relies on the plaintiffs playing their cards exactly right in the trial as well as other matters. But as scurrilous as alex jones is, I'd imagine he's got his business entities firewalled, only the best legal teams could get through it. but maybe he is really dumb.

You don't get his assets because of just the defamation.. You get the assets if they win the case and get a judgement he can't pay. If he can't pay, then they seize his assets to attempt to pay out the judgment. This is what I'm hoping to see. I'm hoping they win a judgement so big he can't afford to pay and has to give up his show assets along with future wage garnishments so he can't just restart with a slightly changed name.

that's what I'm saying. unless he's a total dumb, he's got his shit on lockdown and all big assets are firewalled from judgement. His nutraceuticals could be an entirely different brand and out of reach of a judgment from his show.

Moreover, the plaintiffs will have to prove without a doubt that they have been substantially and irreparably harmed due to the defamation. they are seeking unspecified damages. Courts can't just award judgments willy nilly.

what if what he says incites others to harm who he is talking about?

To me there are two kinds of harm.

Type 1 - He says something that hurts/angers someone and potentially what he says causes them difficulty in their life (trouble at work etc). In these cases I think it is a civil matter and should be settled in civil court.

Type 2 - He says something that causes someone to actually attack and physically hurt (or even kill) another person. In this case he needs to be charged. I'm no lawyer so I don't know what charges they would hit him with, but he needs to be arrested and charged with a major crime.

My mind's not fully made up on where I stand on this.

For me this would just need to follow most existing laws. If someone calls and threatens someone that is a crime and should be treated as such. If it is determined that the person made the calls at the behest of someone like Jones he should be charged as well. Also, if that is determined, the victim should be able to sue him.
