GDRP and Social Media Account Verification

So I am noticing that most accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are requiring verification. The reasons for locking accounts, or disconnecting from third party services, are "automation" "suspicious activity". This is even happening on accounts that are not tweeting. My theory is that because of GDPR the social networks are trying to verify information. For accounts that don't have phone numbers on them, they are forcing you to add a phone number (not on all accounts, but on a lot). For ones that have phone numbers, they are forcing you to verify the phone. I think this is all a direct result of GDRP coming into effect tomorrow. It is very frustrating.

It may make sense to verify your phone number on Twitter at least. They have a setting where you can mute people who don't possibly leading to tweets showing up in less people's feeds.
