I've never met anyone that said they were a communist or identified with their belief system.

If only it was only in their youth.... sadly we have too many full-grown adult communists.

quite a few people mistake socialism for communism and many also aren't aware of the differences between classic socialism and modern democratic socialism.

Yes. I live in Toronto. My local city councillor was head of the head Communist Party of Canada (Manitoba) when she lived there many years ago. I think she'd consider herself a social democrat now. She not a friend but I've met her a number of times.

I suspect most people outside the USA know what a social democrat is since many of them are proudly our politicians and have even formed governments.

My neighbors are Muslim. After over ten freaking years of living next to each other, they finally said hello to me. No judging or anything, just kind of strange.

Communists are victims

My father was officially a communist, but he has hated the communist system all the time and he was telling about it openly. So why he was a member of the communist party? Because it was the only way to get a high position @ his facility (senior engineer) and... to get free apartments for his wife and kids. Thus he didn't consider himself as a communist, but officially he was.

Almost the whole Russian government are former communists, including Putin, Medvedev and other jerks.
