The justices, in a 7-2 decision, said the Colorado Civil Rights Commission showed an impermissible hostility toward religion when it found that baker Jack Phillips violated the state's anti-discrimination law by rebuffing gay couple David Mullins and Charlie Craig in 2012. The state law bars businesses from refusing service based on race, sex, marital status or sexual orientation.

The ruling concluded that the commission violated Phillips' religious rights under the U.S. Constitution's First Amendment.

What the lady is trying to tell you is that the decision wasn't narrow in the number of votes, it was narrow regarding the scope of the decision.

That's the primary argument... It was his right to decline to bake the cake based on his beliefs... And the commission "hostilely" went after him for it.. They narrowed the scope to the primary constitutional issue. The end...

That is not what has been decided in that case, my friend. The broader religious liberty issue that some may have been wanting or expecting was not addressed. This was more procedural than anything else.

Have to side with the bakers on this one. No business should be forced to serve anyone they don't want to serve. Why would a gay couple want a cake from someone who didn't put their heart and soul into the work because of their religious belief?

That said, whatever consequences come to the bakery for discrimination is totally on them. But it's a problem for the market to sort out, not the government.

We are a cooperative species and we have to deal with both individual selection and group selection. For example, though this is obviously going to trigger a "that must be bullshit" response, primates are not a cooperative species. Meaning if two chimps must work together to move a log so that they may all escape a fire, they can't do it. Humans are cooperative. Within the group, there is one trait more important that all others. That is that you have a good reputation. So think about this carefully... who is more likely to survive...

1) the guy who is thought by the group to be dishonest but never steals
