Seems Trump just ordered the US to create a new military branch called the US Space Force. Odd. Dumb name.

Why not just add NASA to the military? It's already in place, and was originally "National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics" before it became NASA.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for it. Nothing will push countries into space faster than making it a military priority.

Putting money into a space program is a good idea. Of course I would like it to be for peaceful purposes but hey - the original space program was responsible for all kinds of technological leaps-forward, and make Trump's Space Force (omg) will too.

Why is it dumb? For example here in Russia we have no air forces. Actually we have no dedicated space ones. The aviation and space military forces are joined together as Aerospace Forces.

It's a dumb name. "Space Force" is what a six year old would name it. It's like calling the Navy the "Boat Teams". At the same time, "Aerospace Forces" sounds realistic and serious, not like "Space Force" gives off the impression that the Power Rangers will be running things.

Just my opinion.

Oh, I disagree. I honestly believe we need to move into outer space. Eventually I see our entire species settling on plants around the universe. We will need a branch of the military to operate in space.

Right now the air force handles US military needs in space. Why not expand the USAF, or perhaps change NASA into a military force.

The newest branch of the military is the USAF. It's interesting to see a new branch of the military being created.
