Thanks Trump.. online retail will now get taxed..
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/sup...-sales-n873416
Contracts on the Supreme Court picks! President Donald Trump gave the issue renewed visibility when he tweeted in early April that Amazon pays "little or no taxes to state & local governments." Republicans just raised your taxes.... It wasn't Amazon who didn't pay these taxes.. It was YOU. Now You and everyone else will be charged taxes for online retail.. Congrats for your whining and blind support of a dumb fuck tweeting.. but..but.. mah tax cuts!!! It's all Obama's fault somehow.. |

Got to admire how efficient Trump is right? In less than 3 months a tweet from the President turned into a supreme court ruling. Amazing stuff, usually something like that would take much longer. I also read recently that Trump was in fact kicking for Scott Norwood in super bowl XXV, |
Trump also wants to add a .25 cent per gallon gasoline tax
Trump urges GOP to consider a 25-cent hike in the gas tax |

I saw this on the news today.
I wondered about it...because I've been paying taxes on stuff online for years anyway. Not on everything...but just from some places. For instance, I paid zero sales tax on an order from B&H Photo But on this order from American Musical Supply I did pay tax: Ship To Robert Boyette 7310 Falvo Ave Las Vegas, NV 89131 Summary Subtotal: $2,399.98 Sales Tax: $196.18 Shipping & Processing: $21.95 Total: $2,618.11 So I'm guessing that this new ruling will require all companies to collect state sales tax as opposed to companies picking and choosing? For instance here is a Go-Pro I bought back in May of 2017: Subtotal $349.97 Shipping 2-Day $0.00 Sales Tax $28.87 Order Total $378.84 They charged sales tax. And here is an order from a couple of weeks ago at Sweetwater Music. No tax: Mesa/Boogie Triple Crown TC-50 - 50-watt Rackmount Tube Head ✓ Free Tech Support ✓ Free 2-Year Warranty 1 $1,899.00 $1,899.00 Dunlop CBM95 Cry Baby Mini Wah Pedal ✓ Free Tech Support ✓ Free 2-Year Warranty 1 $100.00 $100.00 Subtotal: $1999.00 Shipping & Handling: $70.30 FREE SHIPPING: -$70.30 Total Before Tax: $1,999.00 Estimated Tax: $0.00 Order Total: $1,999.00 Been wondering why I pay tax on some stuff and not on others. |

President Donald Trump gave the issue renewed visibility when he tweeted in early April that Amazon pays "little or no taxes to state & local governments." That wasn't correct: The company has collected taxes since April 1, 2017, on sales to customers in the 45 states that collect them. That leaves out only Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon. |
Gorsuch seems like a reasonable SC judge. I'm not seeing anything to criticize trump over about him. This sales tax story isn't really an issue.

So now you will be charged double state tax for some purchases depending on where you live, sales tax in the state you are located, and state sales tax for the state the online store is located. :321GFY #FuckTrump |
actually this way predates trump...the rule was if the seller had a brick and mortar store in the state then the state could require sales tax collection, otherwise they could not. This COURT ( ie not a new law or executive order) ruling broadened it to allow states to collect sales tax whether the vendor has a brick and mortar store in the state or not.

Trump now controls the Supreme Court with Twitter. Democrats who insist political bias isn't a factor in their Supreme Court nominations now complaining that Judges with political bias are increasing taxes.
Funny stuff. The guy is more effective with 140 characters on a smart phone than Obama was with 1000 teleprompters and a fawning media. |

By the way... how are all the children at the border doing that just yesterday you were so "outraged" about?
Any word? Do you know anything about anything thats going on down there? No? Didn't think so. Thats right, you don't know any more about it today than you did yesterday or the day before.... but but but muh childrens! That fit of feigned outrage and virtue signaling didn't last long at all. |
The fact that people on a webmaster board can't figure this out is prime example as to why this decision came to be and why it will stand.. And in the process greatly affect the internet as we know it... If you think your sales don't count... Think again....... I paid sales tax on the local water park membership for my son... They will be coming for website membership sales as well... If someone paid you for it..Some municipality is going to be looking for their tax... Not good for ANYONE in this business...

This will include your websites.. This ruling will directly affect you and your business.. Not sure why AMS would charge you sales tax as they appear to be based in NJ, but it's possible they have a distribution center in your state perhaps. edit, yes they have a distribution center in your state, hence the reason you get charged sales tax. https://www.americanmusical.com/Imag...map_091216.jpg This obviously wont start overnight, might even take a few years for some states, but it's gonna start soon you can bet your ass on that if states can collect taxes they will want that money.. On the flip side the processing companies will probably cash in on this by offering up automated solutions for a nice fat fee sometime down the road, but until there is a automated system this will be hell on small vendors. |

As for me.. Local sales only until this gets sorted out. It's going to hurt... But less of a headache.. There is a potential upside to this for me.. But it's a complete 180 in my biz.. |

The problem is like my sales tax in FL, I have to file every quarter. That means now you'd have to do that 50 times every quarter for all 50 states. Even if you don't sell anything in that state you will still have to report no sales.. You know damn well if states start collecting it will be counties and cities next.. |

Now consider this.. Remember how the IRS was weaponized to target tea party? Multiply that times 10, 25, 50 or 1000... This is going to be a fucking disaster. |

So a question for the Trump fans, does this ruling apply to digital goods ?
i.e. Will your porn sales now be subject to sales tax ? Are cam girls going to take a hit ? Are we about to see every single vendor of digital or non tangible goods hot foot it out of the US ? Is that the end of Google et al as US domiciles? |
Quote:
The ruling says states have the right to collect, but states will have to still make laws requiring virtual stores to comply. The IRS was not weaponized against tea party groups. That was "fake news". The IRS also went after progressive groups as well.. They targeted groups who were political by name not specific to tea party. They targeted these groups due to high rate of illegal activity not because they were tea party or progressive... |
Remember even vendilldo here on gfy set up a fraudulent 501 group to try to get rich scamming old ladies out of donations on behalf of Hillary..
Ask vendilldo how much he spent promoting Hillary's campaign... Absolutely not a dime, which is why the FBI was going after 501 political groups... |
It's why I troll the fuck out of vendilldo every time he posts, because he is a scamming assholes.. Want proof look up the filings for his 501 group, not a dime of donations were spent on campaigning for Hillary.

But the Go Pro receipt I showed that did charge sales tax...I bought that straight off GoPro.Com
I THINK they are in California. And American Musical Supply which also charged sales tax are located in Oakland, New Jersey. As I said...I've seen dozens of things like that where one company will charge sales tax and another won't. Maybe certain states already require them to collect state sales tax and NOW it will be a Federal thing too? |
Quote:
With this ruling B&H would be required to charge you tax and file with your state. You will very likely have to begin collecting sales tax on membership sales or whatever.... File and remit taxes to each and every state your members purchase from..... |

Or does it matter where it comes from as long as they can claim a "presence"? I know that Musicians Friend is the same thing as Guitar Center. So I'm very aware that they have a presence in most states. But American Musical Supply...I'm not aware of any presence. And if they did have a presence it would probably be in either Vegas or Reno (all the other town in Nevada are small) |

Reading up on SD law... $100k+ in sales... And notices to be displayed apparently..
According to the law, these high-volume retailers must provide readily visible notice in certain locations on those parts of their websites that relate to facilitating, confirming, and/or checking out transactions. The notices must state that: the noncollecting retailer is not required to collect, and does not collect, South Dakota sales or use tax the purchase is subject to state use tax unless it is specifically exempt from taxation the purchase is not exempt merely because the purchase is made over the Internet, by catalog, or by other remote means the state requires each South Dakota purchaser to report any purchase that was not taxed and pay tax on the purchase; the tax may be reported and paid on the South Dakota use tax form, and the use tax form and corresponding instructions are available on the South Dakota Department of Revenue website. If each state adopts $100k per state most small biz should be fine.. For now... Now that the door is open.. No telling... |
