WOW ...Democrat's viral campaign video could be trouble for tea party Republican in deep-red Texas

damn it is well made

An Air Force veteran’s biographical and cinematic campaign ad has gone viral — receiving nearly 2 million viewers in just five days — and could give the Democrat a chance in the heavily Republican 31st Congressional District of Texas.

The stylishly cinematic ad titled “Doors” tells the story of how Mary Jennings “MJ” Hegar of Leander/Cedar Park went from a girl with dreams of flying airplanes to running for Congress. She served as a rescue helicopter pilot on three tours of Afghanistan, where she was shot down and sustained injuries — earning a Purple Heart. Upon returning, she successfully lobbied to lift a ban on women in all ground combat jobs but encountered many unresponsive congressmen along the way. Now she’s challenging one who she says wouldn’t meet with her, tea party Republican John Carter, who hasn’t had a difficult race yet in their heavily Republican district.

“Apparently, being his constituent and a veteran wasn’t enough to get a meeting. I guess I also needed to be a donor,” she says in the ad. “So now I’m running against him, taking on a system that cares more for campaign donors and political parties than protecting our country.

Texas has deep-red districts but it's a mistake to describe the entire state as deep red.

media likes to make that mistake often.

If she's in Round Rock, that should be same district as Austin but maybe that area has more than one distinct. That area could be winnable.

Very good opening campaign vid for her though. It's nice to see many solid candidates with military background coming from Democrats. That guy in Indiana is another good one.

It's ludicrous that Republicans seem to have a political monopoly on service members, considering so many top republican candidates were draft dodgers and getting fake deferments like Trump..

Meanwhile the right vilified Kerry who earned the purple heart actually fighting for this country while Bush jr was playing in the Air National Guard to avoid the draft.. Not to mention how Trump lashed out at McCain's service. Perhaps Trump will be the guy to set the military straight by showing them Republican's just used them for votes but aren't there to fight for them..

The Republicans gerrymandered the fuck out of Austin so that the will of the majority will never come to pass, 5 of their 6 representatives are Republican.

"Republicans redrew Austin’s districts strategically, portioning off parts of the city and linking them to outside, conservative counties. They did this to ensure sure Travis County Democrats couldn’t have too big of an impact on election results — a tactic that’s referred to as “cracking.”

Texas Republicans effectively diluted the voting power of Austin — and the equally liberal Travis County it sits in — by splitting the county into five congressional districts and carving Austin into six districts."
