Pissed Right Fucking Off!

Revived my MAME machine today after it not being used for over a year. Needed a new bios battery for motherboard, which I replaced and it booted first time.

Thing is though, all my customisations of MAME - Both display and iPac arcade control - WERE WIPED!!! GRRRRR

So I spent most of the afternoon getting it back to how I liked it, and then it started crashing on me! Needing to swap the keyboard fro the USB to PS2 fitting for boot up is a PITA ! Then once Ive got it going again (Last know good config) in BIOS... Fucker goes and crashes on me again...

Cant leave KB on PS2 as it means the door cant be shut with it connected there. So back to usb and we are good to go until BSOD again !!!

I'd forgotten what the BSOD looked like till today. Its like getting reaquatinted with an old friend who you dont like at all and wish you hadn't met up with them again.

Its not the tech side that annoys me... Its jut a heavy fucker to keep turning around to get in the back and its a really hot day in the UK too...

Anyway, rant over - I feel vented... Now I'll try AGAIN !!! GRRRRR

But the nostalgia is worth all the bs. Want to set up an arcade in my garage. This thread is a tad motivating.

all you need is a big screen and a good comp.

Sorry. Totally disagree.

Yes, if you just wanna play the games, you dont even need a 'good' PC... But I'm talking about standing infront of a dedicated cabinet, with real arcade joysticks and real arcade buttons, playing your game on a 4:3 aspect CRT screen ideally...

Thats the only way to get the true experience of the early 80s games... :2 cents:

As for mine though, Ive got a new KB (Mini) arriving tomorrow and its PS2 instead of USB. If it wont stop crashing I'm gonna start again from scratch. Complete reinstall and iPac setup etc... Gonna take a while, but it will be worth it :)

FUN FACT: if you take the word MAME, remove 1 letter and replace 3 other letters, you end up with the word POO

Hadn't ever played Guantlet before. That shit is fun and addictive!

CS, good luck with getting the bugs worked out. Taking the time to get it done right will pay off, and you'll be glad you did it.

MAME is awesome and I enjoy it very much.

Guantlet was great. It was the beginning of the quarter eater type of games. Right along with Dragon's Lair and Space Ace. I always preferred pinball though because four quarters could last me all day.

Well the new keyboard seems to have done the trick - Machine is running flawlessly now. All games back to normal and for some reason, a lot of settings that I had lost, but not yet restored, are now back to normal.

Weird how a keyboard could make all the difference?
