Finished huge project, feel a huge weight off my shoulders
 

Didn't really have anywhere else to put this, so figured maybe some of you guys would know the feeling.

Earlier this year a client came to me with a project that was like, three times as big as anything we've done before. Simple stuff: tube video rewrites. Completely unique title / 50-word text. Not exactly mentally taxing, but the size .. oh man.

I had 1 casual and 1 part-time writer at the time, had to ramp them both up to 2x full time and put in about 8-12 hours of writing per day myself. The amount of writing required was frying my brain. Client was very strict on scheduling too: they had a deadline, and I didn't want to fall behind.

Project started in Feb, scheduled to be completed by August 1st. Just polished off the last 10k batch of 193k~ videos. So in the last 6 months I've written around 4~5 million words. It's my job, I know that, but still: never felt so damn happy (but tired) at the same time. I did dial back on the last week as a treat, because there was still 10 days left, but yeah. Killer. Wonder how many times I wrote "fuck", "pussy", etc.. Maybe I'll do some graphs on the spreadsheets to find out.

Ya'll ever do some real tough shit in this industry? Makes me appreciate the days where I worked a lot less :1orglaugh

Why not creating a tube site yourself at this point? I don't get it, and the rates for as much text must have been extremely low.

Given the setup was the same (they modified the backend for us to get in, load up a page and macro tab, enter to open up 50 editable videos at a time with thumbnails), it'd be $1 per video. Same price up until maybe 10k videos, then a discount, then another discount over 50k videos. Not a huge reduction, but enough to make you feel like you were getting a deal.

Because I don't have the input capital right now to start my own tube, and I don't think it's the type of website I'd enjoy running. I'm working on camgirls and paysite reviews right now - those are more my flavor. I'm actually pessimistic about tube sites: I find cams to be a lot more pirate proof.

Back in 2016 I worked on tube rewrites for a new company that acquired a heap of premium .xxx domains. I think it was gay.xxx, MILF.xxx and a few others. What's crazy is that they didn't even use the rewrites after employing me for 3 months on a full-time contract to write them...such a waste. Hopefully the profits do come for them, especially for how much money they're putting into backlinks and advertising. You never want to see anyone piss up their chance.

It's good to put time constraints on your projects, like you had there. Keeps you moving forward. You know what you are waking up to each day, even if it's monotonous, and can focus on the task at hand.

Congratulations on completing the project early! That always feels fantastic.

We just wrapped up 2.5 years of full time work which included research, focus groups, coding and design, on a single project. I dream about taking a very very very long vacation, but I allow my ego to be constantly fed by the work, the challenges and the results.

Congrats on getting that done! We had two major projects last year, and hit the target both times. But it was many many many months of 80-100 hour work weeks to get it done. Was challenging, exhausting, frustrating and in the end very satisfying to get done.

193K videos is no joke. Kudos to you guys for getting that done.

Congrats, I recently just finished coding up a very large scale project and I'm now switching from creation mode to marketing mode. Once the next couple of weeks are done, hopefully I can swap that out for relaxed mode :)

Funny you should ask that, I reached out to quite a few past clients over the last week and I've got a plate that's warming up of things to do. A little more variety this time though, so I'm not going to lose my mind. I also started to work on a few of my own things I've put off for a very long time.

Relaxed mode is fun, for a bit. The last month has been ... wake up, eat, shower, work for 15 hours, go to bed. At some point you get burnt out, but I still feel quite 'fresh', despite the marathon.

To complicate things I'm moving to England in 6 weeks. So it's not like even if I did have time off, I'd be able to play video games, wank to porn or go watch a movie. :Oh crap

Where abouts in England? Anywhere near me? Devon area? I'll take you out for a beer if you are :thumbsup
