Different countries and cultures ya know, but down here if I saw a house with a flag outside its I'd presume it was a diplomatic residence or some nuthead with mental health issues. We do have a national days like your 4th of July, and those days are the exception, any other time of the year however… loony house, walk on other side of road.

If the leaders of either country got up and said "God Bless, Australia or NZ, they'd be removed from office the next day.

NZ is one of the few countries in the world to have a free trade agreement with China, they've also offered it to the USA, and the reasons that can be done by such a small country is... What a horrible thing to say. i think you display a misunderstood and consequently only a negative view of patriotism. patriotism is not about being aus or US, it's more about belonging to a group and the spirit of fellowship within that group. that no matter what, we'll sort shit out together and move forward. true patriotism isn't about a flag really.
