Five homeless people hanging out here at McDonald's/Walmart

The thing that bothers me most is the litter. I'm sure that's what bothers the business owners most as well. Empty cans of spaghetti o's, drink cups, McDonald's bags, etc.

So I walk up to them and offered them each a bottle of water and a Hershey's bar. I tell them that the businesses around here don't hassle us, they don't call the cops on us, and there are at least 20 other homeless people that sleep here every night. I tell them that the least we can do is pick up our trash and not run out our welcome.

I wasn't condescending, I called them all sir, and they agreed. So I hand them a trash bag and politely asked them to clean up all the trash around them and they did. It was an uplifting experience.

A lot of homeless are mentally ill and for some it's just a case of not being able to afford their meds. It's sad they don't even know any better than to not shit where they sleep but it's great you motivated them to get their shit together :thumbsup

Yes, and a lot of people have lost hope. Being unemployed for a year quickly turns into two and five. Then it becomes harder to get a job because no one wants to hire someone that's been out of work that long. Before you know it, it's been ten and twenty years since you've worked and you've given up on the thought of being employed.

brassmonkey 07-29-2018 01:06 PM

weird they are suppose to clean up the business.

There are no overnight parking signs everywhere I go. I take my chances by staying there anyways. The least anyone can do that stays in a private lot (or anywhere) is not to destroy it with litter. I've only been kicked out of two parking lots so far in the three years I've been urban camping.

Holy fuck that would suck.

It's best to volunteer to keep active & open new opportunities. My son volunteered at the Boys & Girls Club and they liked him so much they hired him @ $13 an hour 25 hours a week and he ended up working there three years.

Some of those are just people who've had bad luck.

a litter bug is a litter bug! not good.

cigarette butts are part of the worst imo. was walking into a 7-eleven the other day when a dude parked there in a nice car dropped his cig butt out the window as i was about to walk by, as i did i said "hey, ya dropped something there!", and pointed to the butt, he opened his door and picked it up.

I hate people that litter. I think it comes down to two groups. Those who don't give a fuck if they trash everything and those who are ignorant of what they are doing.

The ones who are ignorant and throw stuff on the ground usually are like that because it's how they were brought up. They were never taught it was wrong and probably never lived any other way but in a trash pile. These people you can usually teach to respect their soundings..

One ones who just don't give a shit are typically very shitty people in general and littering is just part of it.

I hate people that let their dogs shit anywhere and leave it there. I consider this a kind of littering. It's a pain in the ass to get a bag out of my pocket and pick up a 3 pound warm steaming pile shit, then walk with it to a trash bin, but I do it as a consideration to others, as I do throwing my trash away and not littering.

Do you normally stay in Tampa or the other side of the bridge in Clearwater/St Pete?

You ever tried parking at the Hard Rock Casino lot? They have a lot for truck and RV parking and they won't usually bother you. I used to tell me drivers all the time when they couldn't find a truck stop to stay the night at to either find a Walmart (which you already do) or a casino...

Do they? I've called the Hard Rock and asked if they had RV parking and they told me they didn't. They told me I had to park at Lazy Days.

If I recall correctly you used to be able to park trucks and RV's in the north lot. Of course it's been a few years so they could have changed that. It's never been my favorite casino so I don't really frequent it anymore when I'm down in the winters...

No, I have T-Mobile One Plus + International. International (extra $25) allows me unlimited tethering to my laptop with no throttling. Most other carriers will limit your tethering usage to around 20GB before you're throttled. Although I am suspect to be "deprioritized" after 50GB, I have used over 300GB monthly without it happening.

Thanks, I will take a look. I haven't been there since it was the old Indian casino. I used to frequent with a friend that taught me when each bank of machines were ready to jackpot.

No problem, I ran a lot of freight myself if I was awarded a load and didn't have an available driver, so I've slept in my fair share of parking lots. I'm sure you already know about the TA and Flying J truck stops in Seffner, although they are a bit out of the way...

Dude get out of FL in the summer if you are doing the car/van thing. It's hot as balls. Do like I used to do and go to Colorado in the summers. Go somewhere like Boulder and its next to the mountains and way cooler.

Added to that, there are much better paying jobs than what you find in FL. FL for all intents and purposes is a shithole unless you already have solid income or are retired. You never get ahead here unless you have your own income because wages are shit and housing is too much.

I've started playing pool again. I joined a pool league on Mondays and play tournaments every night of the week. It's hard to believe its been over 20 years already since I played competively. It's also good exercise. It's become apparent how out of shape I am since playing again. Unless you count blob as a shape. :)
