My personal grievance over food van being to clean and modern...
Around this time of year, a local travelling fairground with rides and amusements rocks up in my town and sets up for the week. One of the highlights of there visit, are the HotDogs from the food cart. Hot, greasy, covered in fried onions, mustard and ketchup, while no way being healthy, sure do taste mighty fine.
The old fashioned, greasy, smokey van they are served from adds to the ambiance of the food and each year... In the past, I've probably kept them in business... Well its that time of year again, and imagine my disappointment to see that the hotdog van has been fully revamped. New vehicle, all stainless steel, and spotlessly clean. Couldn't bring myself to order... All cold and clinical looking... Like food thats been prepared in a hospital operating theater. Totally spoilt the entire look and feeling of the food... Such a shame. Too clean and none of the atmosphere that combined into a once a year taste extravaganza. It makes me sad... :( |
Once you become accustomed to something, change is not a welcome site. :1orglaugh

Shame - They made really tasty fresh snacks as you walked around the fairground... |

Its not about wanting to eat food thats been prepared in unsanitary conditions. Its more about not wanting to eat the same food when its made under virtual laboratory conditions ! The grease and the smoke and all the food stuffs, all kinda making contact with each other, is just the traditional way that I expect a hot dog to be prepared, if I'm going to eat a hot dog at the fairground. Rough and ready - Not hypoallergenic... I wouldn't expect it anywhere else, but once a year, isn't really gonna hurt me :) |

I really miss the egg and bacon sandwiches we use to get at Pinewood studios at 6am . Nice runny eggs and Irish bacon tastes amazing before a long day on set.

Thanks to this thread I'm making a fried egg & mayo toasted sandwich and 2 grilled cheese and mayo sandwiches. #ThanksGFY 💕💖💕👄

The only places that seem to still get away with the "grunge" around here are a few roadside BBQ trailers and those are always the best places to eat. Once a week stop for me is and old carnival food trailer like you mention with a wood shed as a smoke house in a parking lot of a plumbing co. (Definitely a destination spot for you CS lol) The owner of the plumbing co does all the smoking/cooking and tends to the customers while his crews are out.
