Absolute power corrupts absolute power

We already have a lot of socialist things in this country, but there will be more coming. I don't think it will happen any time soon, but I think we will eventually land in a place where there is universal healthcare, cheap or free college, and other social welfare programs.

We could avoid it, but I can't see us taking those steps so we will continue to head down that path.

Imagine if Bernie Sanders runs and wins. That means the country will have elected a black man, an orange man, and a Socialist as the last three Presidents. Pretty wild.

Aus and NZ where I'm from both have free health care. The majority of people still have insurance, the two systems complement each other, there's also a social net for the needy, aged pension, unemployment benefits even paid parental leave.

I don't think most Americans consider Australia to be a socialist country, neither do most Australians.

the problem is people throwing around the word socialism and not even knowing what it means.

Venezuela might be a socialist country and it's truly fucked up and no one in his sane mind can want that

but none of the European countries is socialist no matter how often people like you confuse that

but all European countries (some more, some less) have safety nets for their people like health insurance, unemployement benefits or social insurance. Paid partly by all citizens, companies and the government itself.

And it makes sense, the numbers prove it.

I don't know anyone who is in large debt because he either wanted to study or had a major health incident.

And the overall tax burden in the US is not so much lower, they just spend a shitload of money for weapons. Cut the military budget in half and take that money into universities, health insurance, social insurance and the US could be a paradise (for more than the top 1%)

That's the thing - stop having an expensive military sounds easy, but Bush, Obama, and Trump all disagree with that. The defense and intelligence community all grew under them.

Because private businesses & services supplement every military installation for everything from waste management & internet services to food preparation & transportation services. This is part of the reasons big business supports the Republicans.

if you look at it that way, it is actually socialism at its best: government paid jobs plus government subsidized industry through overinflated prices.

so when the US already has implemented the bad parts of socialism, you can also add the good things :winkwink:

Here in America , the right only wants socialism for the rich, the sheep are too stupid to realize that.
