Trumps EPA is now allowing asbestos back into manufacturing

And guess where the biggest Asbestos mine is? RUSSIA

One of the most dangerous construction-related carcinogens is now legally allowed back into U.S. manufacturing under a new rule by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Fast Company recently reported that on June 1, the EPA authorized a “SNUR” (Significant New Use Rule) which allows new products containing asbestos to be created on a case-by-case basis.

According to environmental advocates, this new rule gives chemical companies the upper hand in creating new uses for harmful products in the United States. In May, the EPA released a report detailing its new framework for evaluating the risk of its top prioritized substances. The report states that the agency will no longer consider the effect or presence of substances in the air, ground, or water in its risk assessments.

This news comes after the EPA reviewed its first batch of 10 chemicals under the 2016 amendment to the 1976 Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), which requires the agency to continually reevaluate hundreds of potentially toxic chemicals in lieu of removing them from the market or placing new restrictions on their use. The SNUR greenlights companies to use toxic chemicals like asbestos without consideration about how they will endanger people who are indirectly in contact with them.

Asbestos was widely used in building insulation up until it was banned in most countries in the 1970s. The U.S. is one of the only nations in the world that has placed significant restrictions on the substance without banning it completely. The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) revealed in April that asbestos-related deaths now total nearly 40,000 annually, with lung cancer and mesothelioma being the most common illnesses in association with the toxin. That number could rise if new asbestos-containing products make their way into new buildings.

‘Approved by Donald Trump’: Asbestos sold by Russian company is branded with the president’s face

A Russian asbestos company that operates a giant mine in the Ural Mountains is marketing its wares with President Trump’s image, according to photos it posted on social media, citing former EPA administrator Scott Pruitt as well as Trump’s outspoken support for the carcinogen.

The company Uralasbest posted photos of the pallets adorned with a seal with Trump’s face in the center on its Facebook page in June.

“Approved by Donald Trump, 45th President of the United States,” the seal read, according to a translation supplied by the Environmental Working Group, a nonprofit focused on human health and the environment that flagged the posting.

That's what people in New York breathed when the World Trade Center went down.

The Link Between 9/11 and Cancer Has Become Increasingly Clear

By 2008 552 World Trade Center rescue and recovery workers had been diagnosed with cancer.

This woman, known as "the 9/11 dust lady" (Marcy borders) died in 2015 from cancer

Makes you wonder how many people who survived that collapse died due to breathing that air. There is gonna be no stats of that..

crockett 08-07-2018 01:35 PM

Honestly though is it too "radical" to call Republicans domestic terrorist at this point? They refuse to do anything about making health care affordable which literally causes tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of pre-mature deaths. Add in them allowing deadly pollution and killing regulations that cut back on air/water and soil pollution, this easily adds tens of thousands of more pre-mature deaths per year..

Not to mention their attempts to kill any sort of social services and steal people's social security money forcing the disabled and elderly to live in squalor..

The Republican party is literally responsible for more American deaths per year than all terrorist attacks combined, WW1, WW2 and even the civil war.. Probably every war we've been in will not add up to the amount of deaths caused by Republicans in this country.

How are they not terrorists?

there is no doubt asbestos causes lung cancer, everyone knows it, everyone has banned it, removing it from old buildings is done under outmost care and almost clinical conditions.

but hey, there are a lot of immigrants working in construction - could be a long term plan...

Helix 08-07-2018 01:43 PM

Asbestos has never been completely banned. Most of the restrictions on manufacture, importation, processing, or distribution were overturned in 1991.

There is no long term plan other than to make themselves rich.. These people care nothing about anyone not even their own family in many cases. These people are greed above all.

That's fucked, asbestos kills, we had a huge problem back until the 80's , the Australian Government banned it in full by the 2003. Asbestos Kills, I'm pretty sure most of the Emergency responders in 911 that didn't die , died years later due to asbestos inhalation

That's not what this is doing AT ALL. Before, there was no ban, now you have to pass EPA guidelines to use it.

Case by case basis may refer to manufacturing heat resistant parts eg: science, for a space craft I wouldn't automatically assume it would be approved for contruction or residentual purposes. Plutonium will kill you to and power a city. I would't automatically assume a roll over and all in danger again. Case by case would be just that. My grandfather died of aspestos related illness he wasn't aware of the danger we all don't work in aspestos and we are now aware. I can put my personal feelings aside and still see there maybe uses for it.

You see asbestos everywhere in Thailand, Brazil, Mexico. I avoid houses with bad asbestos roofs and think they must be banned everywhere.

After the earthquake in mexico city my girlfriend wanted to help. I said no, only with good masks. Cause there was asbestos eveywhere. I am happy she listened. We helped with other things and many people where already digging in the dirt. Now after the earthquake in Lombok Indonesia there must be a lot of asbestos also.

I read a few months ago Brazil banned asbestos and shut down the last factory. That was about time, all those favela's are full of asbestos. Will take another 50 years for most is gone. When i talked about asbestos in Brazil, people didn't even know it could cause cancer ..
