Trump's Tarrifs cause the last American TV manufacturer to go out of business

Another day and another American made business goes under because of Trumps tarrifs.

#ThanksTrump

"“The layoff and closure is a result of the new tariffs that were recently and unexpectedly imposed on many goods imported from China, including the key television components used in our assembly operations in Winnsboro.”

"The news is especially hard for Winnsboro and its surrounding communities because of recent job losses in the area, including the shuttering of a Walmart store, the closing of a textile mill, and the cancellation of plans to construct two nuclear reactors."

"In June, America’s largest nail manufacturer, Mid-Continent Nail, became the first company to lay off workers and cite tariffs as the reason. The company made nails with steel imported from Mexico. In early July, Washington-based REC Silicon, which makes polysilicon used in solar panels, laid off 100 employees as “a direct result of the ongoing solar-trade dispute between China and the US."

Trump's China Tariffs Claim Another Victim: Americas last TV Manufacturing Plant

Harley-Davidson has also said it would move production of its Europe-bound vehicles offshore in response to a 31% tariff that the European Union imposed, which was itself retaliation against Trump’s tariffs on European steel.

Despite the closing of Element’s plant in South Carolina, Trump is pushing ahead with the imposition of new tariffs. The AP reported Tuesday that the Trump administration will go ahead with tariffs on $16 billion in Chinese imports beginning on August 23.

The steel industry is booming, and that's all that matters to Chump!

Maybe they should bring in foreign workers like Chump

Another American company going out of business because of Trump....

crockett 08-09-2018 10:31 AM

The love them or hate them the designer "Crocs" suddenly with out prior notice shut down two manufacturing plants overseas and shut down their headquarters in Colorado. They also fired their CEO..

They've also closed several stores meanwhile their sales and profits were up. They haven't stated why they did all this while previously making a profit.

Funny thing, is their headquarters was in Niwot, CO and was less than 2 miles from where I had my Ebay business in a gunbarrel, Co. I had no idea they were right there..

Never heard of them. They probably went out of business because nobody buys them. What brand is your TV?

He stopped the funding for your trucking school and you still defend him.

They are a budget brand, seem to be mostly sold at Walmart and Target. Basically Chinese junk assembled in the United States.

How Russian of you, American made goods are junk and hundreds of American jobs lost don't matter to you.

Luckily Americans care and have already shown their displeasure at the voting booth :banana

I'm Canadian. And the Element TVs are junk. Mostly parts shipped in from China and only assembled in the United States. Doesn't sound like a winning formula for a business. Of course a megacorp like Walmart is going to get TVs direct from China much cheaper. So why would they continue to order in product from Element?

Go look at any of the house brand TVs at Walmart and let me know if you'd buy them for your home. That goes for Element or any of the Chinese brands. Pure garbage.

If you re-read my posts I never commented on my opinion of the tariffs or Trump's policies. I just stated my opinion of the quality of Element's products and their business model. Of course the tariffs were the final nail in their coffin.

I just put a deposit on a steel roof for my house because I'm not sure what's happening with steel prices in Canada due to the tariffs and wanted to get a quote and have it paid for before anything bad happens. I agree his policies are hurting everyone in various ways.

It's all about making him and his buddies more money while playing to his base of cultist

No, I haven't watched TV since the 90s and the last TV I had was a 19" Sony.

Right so now you say only weak failing American companies are negatively impacted by Trump's tarrifs :1orglaugh

Of course nothing American made will meet your high standards and you'll always have a handy excuse, then soon you'll be recommending "quality" Russian imports to fill the gaps of the American businesses gone under like this quality Russian made 2018 model Shilijalis brand TV

Are you retarded, get paid per word you type, or do you have reading difficulties?

How did you completely skip over the part where I said I thought the tariffs were negatively impacting everyone, including myself, and were also what finally killed Element off? You know...agreeing with the entire point of the original post?

Let me put it in a way you might understand: TRUMP TARIFFS BAD. UNGA BUNGA.

None of that negates the fact that Element makes cheap, poorly reviewed TVs made of Chinese parts.

And then you result to nasty personal attacks.

What's wrong with you people that you can't have a back and fourth without breaking down?

Because you don't read what people type then accuse everyone of being Russian shills, even when they agree with you.

Pay more attention before you bring out the alt right/Russian shill nonsense and you won't receive so many negative responses.

I just thought it was weird that you said American made TV's with solid 4 star ratings, were crap. Like I said, I have a feeling that you'll blame every American company that goes under because of Trump's tarrifs, blame the victim...

MrBottomTooth 08-09-2018 10:26 PM

Solid 4 star reviews. Of course when you post reviews from people buying a factory refurbished 720p TV that they paid less than $100 for I'm sure they are very happy with their purchase. If it turns on they think they are doing OK. lol

The TVs are obviously budget-priced garbage.

Still so desperate to try to make it about Trump that you'll tell yourself anything. It can't just be that I dislike them because they are cheap budget TVs filled with Chinese parts. I'm obviously a Trump-supporting fake nick.

But go ahead and buy one, I'm sure you'll love your new refurbished 720p TV in your living room too!

Another day, another worthless thread by you

american pervert 08-11-2018 09:31 AM

This week, the establishment media has used the closure of Element Electronics, a small manufacturing plant in Winnsboro, South Carolina, where 126 workers will be laid off, to attack Trump’s tariffs on imported Chinese goods. In a statement about the layoffs, Element Electronics executives said the announcement is due to Trump’s tariffs on imported Chinese goods, writing, “the layoff and closure is a result of the new tariffs that were recently and unexpectedly imposed on many goods imported from China, including the key television components used in our assembly operations in Winnsboro.” The only problem with the media’s claim? This “last major TV factory,” as Time Magazine described Element Electronics, makes its products in China and only assembles some of its television sets in South Carolina.
