RIP the Queen of Soul.

She sang at MLK's funeral. Who will sing at her's? Maybe Chaka Khan or Patti Labelle would be worthy. 2 of the most powerful voices I've ever heard.

There was a time when Oprah was able to use her starpower to get Aretha & Patti to sing onstage together, for a precious brief moment. They loved each other, respected each other. But there was always a competition.

Skip to 2:12 to see the magnificent once-in-a-lifetime Aretha/Patti duet. Sorry for the shit quality, and sorry for whoever the moron was who decided to roll credits over a history-making event.

... WITH ANOTHER GREAT ICON :

HairyChick 08-16-2018 06:50 PM

RIP. I’d read she was near death two days ago. What a loss. She took the place of Pavarotti when he was ill once. Her opera, in Italian, was indescribable. Goose bumps galore. My mom, a true opera fan, was impressed, and very little impresses her when opera is sung by a non-opera singer.

Her voice was just phenomenal.

I told a CNA this morning and she said, “who?” She’s just 28 but still ...
They played Aretha on the radioq when going to the doctor. She recognized R E S P E C T at least

Miss Patti can do her justice like no one else. Two queens with powerful voices who can/could sing high and loud without screaming.

I listen to wFUV out of New York and they had a ton of her music on the day of her death....I always thought she was a little overrated and it was confirmed for me while listening to some of her tunes. I can appreciate the impact she's had on music, but meh.

adultchatpay 08-20-2018 03:51 PM

She is an icon for sure.
