I was up in Providence, visiting my mom in the hospital, when a nurse came in. Ignoring us, she did vitals, checked IVs, then I was introduced to her. Said “hi” and she responded with ...

Me: Hi
Her: Yanno if you lost weight you’d not be in a wheelchair
Me: You don’t know my issues
Mom: Why would you say that? My daughter nearly died. She’s lost one hundred pounds and looks good, but she wants to lose thirty more. How can? (Interrupted)
Her: Her legs move and her head and arms move. Obviously she’s in the ‘chair so she doesn’t have to walk.
Mom: You’re a rude person and I want you out of here. I want another nurse.
Her: I’m as smart as a doctor
Mom: Ha,
Her: You ...
Mom: I SAID GET OUT (pushes buzzer) (getting upset physically hurt my mom)
Me: Who the fuck are you to judge me? You don’t know a damned thing about me

KNOCK KNOCK

Head Nurse comes in and we all talk. I yelled “stop” then told the nurse what happened. She looked at all of us and asked the other nurse what she said.

Original nurse: *pointing at me*. People like her sit in a wheelchair and collect disability that we pay for coz she’s too fat to walk or work.

Head nurse: You expressed that to her? Not knowing her condition you embarrassed her like that?

Me: Yes she did. (I began crying from embarrassment of it all)

Head nurse: Get your things and leave. You’re no longer employed here

Nurse: Are you fuckin kidding me?

CNA with me: She’s not kidding. You insulted my friend and her mother. Get out before I go ghetto on your ass

Me: I laughed so hard it hurt!

Nurse leaves, grumbling about “these fucking Jews” and “... bring a fuckin gangsta with dem”.

All we could do was laugh and laugh. Head nurse tried to apologize but I told her she had nothing to apologize about. She said that nurse was a new hire, hired during their recent strike.

Going home we just laughed and laughed. I call her “gangsta” now! But in this day and age you’d expect a professional to act correctly. Personal attacks on strangers are never nice or accepted.

The hospital sent a letter, apologizing for the nurse. I said we should ask or demand $100k for harassment and aggravation. No one agreed!

I’ll admit my CNA friend talked with an attitude but in that situation, it was warranted. I’m still in shock it happened. Shocked a woman would say something like that to a stranger knowing people carry guns around with them. I know it happens here but between the forum name, usernames and topics, we expect rancor. It’s the Internet, though, not in person. Here it’s funny most of the time and we laugh and move on.

I put this on my blog and already a friend commented that she’d have slapped the nurse into the next county!

Meanwhile, my mother called and keeps saying, “what kind of world do we live in? In my day .....” . I said the same thing to someone today, “in my day” and I realized that I’m no longer in my twenties but twice that ....

I’ll be glad when this weekend is over. This week has been a nightmare!

(Sorry for the long rant. It’s funny, sad, amazing and disturbing yet true)

My girlfriend works as a RN and says you're completely full of shit. I showed her this story and she laughed. First off, nurses see people like you (people in wheelchairs) every day. Secondly, the head nurse doesn't fire anyone, the HR people do that.

Why make up fake stories, Pam? You even threw in an obligatory fake anti-Semitic comment by the nurse. Looking for sympathy? Did you burn another person of color (Blackmonsters) from the board?

Not sure what is funnier, the fact that there is one woman on the planet that would be involved with a psychopath like yourself, or that this thread meant so much to you that you would show her.

Let's be real here...it didn't mean that much, but being in a relationship with someone you discuss relevant topics and events. Since she is a nurse, I mentioned this to her. You would understand that if you had a girlfriend or in your case a boyfriend instead of being a basement dwelling neckbeard who is forever alone :pimp

Years ago I had an employee who was vastly over weight. I really liked her, and she was a really good employee (in fact, one of the best I've ever had). She was so large that she broke her ankle because of her weight, and it kept on breaking because she was too heavy. She came to me and told me she wanted to have an operation to have her stomach stapled and "needed my support" (mostly because I would need to give her the time off, etc). I thought she was taking the easy way out.

Turns out she had to loose a huge amount of weight before they would even consider her for the operation. She used to weigh out her lunch before she ate each day. I thought she was taking the easy way out, but I learned otherwise as I saw her determination. Eventually she had the operation, and now looks great.

She taught me a valuable lesson about how I judge people.

Read carefully this took place in Providence have any of you ever been to downtown Providence? It makes the ghetto look like Green Acres. I'm surprised they didn't start shooting right there.

Sadly, you’re right. It shocked me how the area had deteriorated. I went to school there and remember nice houses and yards. We went into Walgreens and the aisle signs were in Spanish. It was one third the size of usual stores. Parking lot had five spaces in a tight area. Handicapped parking was one lane over on broken concrete. Prices were crazy. Toothpaste for my mom, Sensodyne, was $13.99/tube. Locally she pays $7.99.

Houses were in bad shape from paint peeling to siding hanging off. Grass was brown or overgrown.

The area was mostly hospitals or doctor buildings. Ronald McDonald House was unkempt and uninviting.

Buddy did an amazing job of fixing it up, but with him being gone, no one cares anymore. I’m close to the Mall but wouldn’t want to go there now. Last time I went was before a visit to the Civic Center. Thankfully I can order online.

It’s pretty sad. I know the area has a lot of immigrants from Cambodia, Vietnam, Honduras and such, but not all are welfare recipients or stupid. Clean up the capitol city to bring tourism back.

I have amnesia. I can’t remember what I did yesterday. I did, however, post to my blog that night what had happened. I generally do that as a draft so I don’t forget things. Writing is hard and typing notes on my iPhone is harder.

I had an amazing memory before my TBI. Now I deal with it and live life. It’s not easy but I’m not a quitter.

You can think it’s bullshit, but why waste an hour typing out a fake story? It’s not for attention, money, kudos, sympathy or humor. People not liking my post don’t affect me in any way. It’s funny to see the people on ignore post and get no comments from me.

LOL the change surprised me. Then I realized that the news reports shootings almost daily. I guess I figured that there was a small area of drugs and hookers. Buddy changed the city and tourism was huge. The area reminded me of the deep South End Of New Bedford or Weld Square. I rarely drove by Weld Square as there was nothing there but rotting tenements and drugs.

Luckily I don’t have to go back there. Providence is too far for Mom to travel to in her condition. I’m glad I saw it, though.
