Hawaii Hurricane has taught me one thing

The Whole state of Hawaii said, we are fucked, no one can help you, we don't know how to handle this much rain and such a hurricane like this. They dodged a bullet this time, Really? the fuck are they waiting for?

Seriously, all the fucking money they make fucking over tourists with high prices, they cant figure out how to handle a strong hurricane in 2018? They should be planning for a Cat 5 all the time. Not fucking around and cry river like they did this time.

Beyond stupid.

A lot of things in the world can be fixed, but like you said "stupidity"

In a SHTF situation, which can strike anywhere, the only one you can truly rely on is you and your own. "Why didn't I buy a generator? Why didn't I buy food that doesn't need refrigeration? Why didn't I buy a water filter? Why didn't I ever buy a first aid kit? Why didn't I ever buy a shovel or basic tools?" The list goes on and on.

The state/fed will do what little they can, in their own time, considering the huge population and the considerable amount of area affected. Everyone needs to do their own part, too.

You do not seem to understand the issue.

If a category five hurricane hits anywhere in the continental United States, people have the ability to leave - get in their car and drive. In Hawaii, a category five hurricane would consume the entire island - there would be no place to go where the story wouldn't hit. Also, anywhere in the continental United States... Help is a few hours a way. Moments after it's decided it's safe, emergency staff, support, equipment, and supplies would be rolling in. In Hawaii, such support would be days away and even then, only by plane, which would severely limit the amount of support they could get.

It's just like Puerto Rico. It's not that they weren't prepared, it's just that they were completely wiped out. Trump mentioned something about "their own people need to take care of the problem". Well, their own people can't take are of the problem. Their cars are destroyed, they don't have gas, and the roads are impassible - not to mention they have to house and feed their own families.

If we pay taxes, they are responsible to handle weather disasters
