Web Hosting Needed For Newbie
A friend is wanting to put up a website/blog. I suggested free hosting but she wants under. -$10/month with up to ten domains with minimal traffic, up to five free email addresses per domain, reasonable unlimited bandwidth (meaning unlimited within reason, not ten terabytes), free SSL, up to five FTP accounts, automatic backups daily (if needed), reasonable storage, friendly support and monthly billing. For a control panel I suggested cPanel but she said 'point and click newbie style' is better. She saw my cPanel and said it was straightforward but wants to see others.
Her idea is product—for-sale sites disguised as blogs. WordPress backend and posts describing and reviewing products with a 'buy' link at the end. She's heavily into organic clothes and stuff so I talked to her about this and had her research it. Her guy got her a list of wholesalers to buy from and she's got money to invest in some stock. She's trying to convince me to buy a yak fur coat for winter! I'd rather have my organic leather;) She will upgrade hosting after a year or so when the traffic increases. I recommended a few hosts to look at, to avoid and to think about. Then I offered to post here. She's coming back next Tuesday so we'll go over offers and posts then and decide. Post, PM and affiliate links are fine. Oh she read about traffic spikes and doesn't want a box with big clients. I explained how it works, about packet kiddies and to notify support if a problem exists. Then I gave a brief explanation of running traceroutes. Sadly, I've done them before illness and used dos. She's learning Windows' traceroute sites as I couldn't remember how to get a dos window, the cmd or the keyboard keys up top for shortcuts. Yeah, kids, before Windows we had to type everything. No point or click, no mouse, and the C keys up top were invaluable. DOS was the OS and black background with green block letters were the norm. Dot matrix printers, too |
I have 2 accounts with 247-host.com. I have the "Business SSD" hosting with faster solid state drives. It is cPanel. I also use Cloudflare to help reduce load times. Overall it's good for the price.

Hawkhost - fast & cheap. Have an account there for like 8 years.

Certified Hosting can do everything he/she needs. The support is great.

For less than ten bucks, I can recommend TMDHosting. The hosting plan starts at $2.95 and they seem to have all that what you mentioned included. Check them out as well.

We can sell her a shared hosting account, a plan that we don’t market on our web site. That will hit her budget and give her the support she needs.

I highly recommend MOJO to anyone looking for hosting. You will not find a better hosting company with exceptional support.

I’m with Mojohost and suggested it.

Mojohost +1

For a "newbie" she is pretty specific on her needs. Why would she need 10 domains?

May not work for all but it worked for me. My next project is starting with one site but might branch out to micro.niche.com. I presented all options and she chose multiple sites. At under $2 for domain registration versus the $60 I paid when starting, free software and plugins, $10 headers and $10/month hosting, for under $240\year she has a business. She's scouring sites and forums for knowledge. She'll spend roughly 70 cents a day the first year to grow a business. When presented like that plus free advice ...... She has the understanding that it takes a year or more of getting the word out before money comes in. Too many fail as they want 'big bling' money immediately. She curses out the people who invented HTML every day, and me for insisting that she learn it! |
good luck with this hun. x
