Tesla haters are gonna cry now...

“Q3 2018 was a truly historic quarter for Tesla,” the company said in today’s investor update letter. A grandiose line? Sure. Hyperbolic? Not that much. Tesla released production numbers for the quarter at the start of this month, which showed it delivered 52,239 Model 3s. Add in the Model S and X, and that's a record more than 80,000 vehicles delivered between July and September.

Tesla made a 300 million dollar profit last quarter..

The model 3 is also now the top selling car in the US during the month of August..

In addition to becoming the best-selling car by overall revenue, the Tesla Model 3 outsold entire luxury brands by car units (excluding vans and SUVs), such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi. Tesla plans to further increase demand by offering cheaper variants of the car all the way down to $35,000, as well as offering leases and expanding test drive opportunities. Moreover, as with Model S and Model X, enthusiastic owners will show their cars to family members and friends, in turn generating more orders.

Tesla's are cool. With the model 3 they're really hit a nice price point being able to travel 200+ miles. Unfortunately, at the end of the year the $7500 rebate won't be available. They've also been able to shorten their production times so if you order now, you can get your car in jan or feb. I love the idea of being able to get new futures by just software updates. It's a super attractive car. One of the issues I see with charging them is that here in california we're on a tier usage program and if our usage goes over each tier, we get charge quite a bit more. I have a friend that works at tesla and he gets keep one at his house and their power bill has been upwards of $600 a month which is much much higher than gas....

TBH I wouldn't be surprised if some of these gas companies were investors in these projects....

Shhhh.. don't tell Crockett that Musk = MAGA.

slapass 10-25-2018 05:24 PM

They have become a real company.

Bladewire 10-25-2018 05:38 PM

Because Fox news Lush Rimjob and other conservatard talk show hosts told them to hate Musk..

My wife rented a Tesla for me earlier this month. It was like a Model S 85 or something—like $84,000 or something like that new.

I must say—I’m sold and I’m a fan. I love that car and I’d buy one in a hearbeat. I’m also a Trump lover. So I’m all mixed up.

AllAboutCams 10-25-2018 06:33 PM

Just make them cheeper

And you guys fell out of love quickly with Musk. At first he didn't like Trump but he's warmed up to him. Hate to break this to you Mark but Musk likes Trump. He's even donated money to a conservative pac.

Did you die a little bit inside knowing your hero wants to MAGA?

Mr Pheer 10-25-2018 10:49 PM

I've never met anyone that hated Tesla. Everyone that I know seems to think electric cars are pretty cool.

gcmaker 10-26-2018 12:04 AM

I too neveremet them.

PhilippeCD 10-26-2018 12:37 AM

The price of the car play.

If the numbers are based on the sale price, you can't compare the sale of a Tesla with a small "city-dweller car".

grumpy 10-26-2018 02:28 AM

Eyes wide shut. No profit, just very, very creative book keeping.

notinmybackyard 10-26-2018 03:07 AM

The bodies of the Teslas are crap. They're non-standardized, overly complicated and damn fucking heavy.

There's also almost no road feel and this combined with its large amount of torque capability makes it dangerous.

Lastly the vehicle corners as if it's a train on rails.

bronco67 10-26-2018 03:46 AM

In the last several months, I've gone from zero Teslas...to seeing my first Tesla. To seeing at least one per day. To seeing different models daily. That's definitely an uptick in sales.

I feel like it's only a matter of time before someone I know has one. Or maybe even me.

all new cars have this "no feel" driving/cornering...it is even hard to tell what speed you are going at without looking directly at the dash...I remember a few years ago we did a corner on the freeway at 200km/h and the only reason we noticed was because somebody looked at the dash by accident...

I like Elon, I like Tesla's.

Oil companies like electric cars.
When you plug your electric car in where is the electricity coming from? 90% of the electricity in the world is still produced by gas and oil. More electric cars more oil and gas used.

MrBottomTooth 10-26-2018 09:38 AM

Wish they'd get more local dealers. Sucks when you have to drive 3 1/2 hours to even look at one. If they're able to ever come out with a decent mid sized pickup truck they'd make a killing.

dyna mo 10-26-2018 09:43 AM

i tend to separate the two. I like tesla as a car company but I am skeptical of Musk as a businessman and find his personality irritating.

The problem isn't lack of road feel per say.

It's :

Lack of Road Feel + High Torque = Dangerous

Without a doubt cars today are built for morons that don't know how to drive and shouldn't be trusted to change a light bulb without prior instruction. Just the same my complaint with the Tesla (and all electric cars) is that they really take this mentality that a driver is a non-essential obsolete part of the vehicle and go to the absurd with it.

YOu better do some research because oil companies are among the biggest investors in electric cars. They see this as just another source of potential income.

They were investing. They were putting millions into research of green energy until they started fracking. Exon, Shell ect.. were owners of some of the biggest solar farms in the early 2000's and were pushing into other green energy areas. Then they started fracking and sold off most of their green energy assets because fracking became a new cash cow.
