How To Fix HD After Virus...

A friend had an external HD fail after Windows Defender 'fixed' a virus for him - It won't mount in Win 7 so I assume I need something to run from the command line - Any ideas? - Free is good or I will end up paying for it...

SystemRescueCd - System Rescue Cd Homepage can mount windows partitions, then you can move data to other drive
