Facebook is dying...

So many people live out their 'lives' on FB. That social media monstrosity has created an entire generation of narcissistic sociopaths.

I truly hope it goes down for good..

I've never liked it. I always thought this social platform was a mess.

RycEric 11-19-2018 03:49 PM

Dying? :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

As of the third quarter of 2018, Facebook had 2.27 billion monthly active users. In the third quarter of 2012, the number of active Facebook users had surpassed one billion, making it the first social network ever to do so. Active users are those which have logged in to Facebook during the last 30 days.

King Mark 11-19-2018 04:00 PM

It'll die. And another will replace it. Can't have everybody scattered online like the good ol days. Gotta herd the sheep.

onwebcam 11-19-2018 04:15 PM

I think put to death will be more like.

At this point it's beyond a friendly social network and more like a global database of WTF everyone is doing at any given time. Privacy? Shit these people can't wait to tell you what they did, where they were, what they ate, here's pics of my family..

I just find the whole thing disgusting so I'll hold on to any glimmer of hope that it may die, even if from a suspect article.

DraX 11-19-2018 04:36 PM

I don't use facebook and don't see any reason for using it based on the social media platform other than being a narcissistic a-hole.

freecartoonporn 11-19-2018 09:18 PM

its still profitable , so i guess, its far from dying

Facebook market cap is 400BUSD down from a high of 645BUSD
BTC market cap is 78BUSD

Maybe Facebook can simply acquire it's way to profitability. But maybe it goes the way of its predecessors and loses 80% of its market cap.

Lol that remind me how once i meet a colleague from course on TES, and i was talking stuff what i know about her, and she was suddenly"how the fuck you know all this stuff about me?", and i told her how she posted it on facebook. So in shortly, be careful what you post online, as it can be used against you. Especially is these era when you can even go to jail if you say something wrong. And dont think how you are protected if you use fake nick or VPN.

Paul Markham 11-20-2018 03:43 AM

Most of my family are on it and I can't believe the level of banality they achieve. Pictures of kids, dogs, horses, friends, meals, etc all displayed to people who don't give a fuck about other people's kids, dogs, horses, friends meals, etc.

CaptainHowdy 11-20-2018 06:27 AM

Most people are, with or without Facebook, narcissistic sociopaths peering into other people's live.

Scrapper 11-20-2018 08:30 AM

You'd think out of any forum people here would know this answer. Back in the day way before Bangbus etc, there were huge paysites like CE. The same thing is going to happen. There will be hundreds of mini-FB's like there are TV channels of different interests. When I was growing up there were just 3 and you had to change the channel by hand.

Yeah, it's not going anywhere. It's funny how the perpetual hater crowd with social issues around here always call for its 'end' and get excited and jerk off on how they 'left years ago' and don't use it while the rest of us stay in touch with friends easily and get invited to parties while they wonder why nobody calls them anymore...

They took a bit of a hit with their news and propaganda exploits but even that has gotten a lot better recently. All platforms evolve and this one will continue to.

If everyone where a sociopath then the term wouldn't have meaning... People being curious about others is normal and healthy human behavior. Assuming everyone is ill and narcissistic is not. I suggest you get out more and talk to people and assume less.

King Mark 11-20-2018 09:08 AM

I remember Myspace, blackplanet, migente, some AOL shit I never bothered with... Etc. People thought nothing could happen to those.

Don't worry. I'm just exercising my right to make an hyperbolic statement on GFY . . .

O'rly? Personally I don't give a flying shit about anyone else excepting my family, relatives and friends. Do you think I want to see pics of your pets, kids or friends? No, I don't just like any other sane person. Stop posing and pretending to others make others think about you this or that. Live your own life.

Facebook is a corporate cancer and we're all dying from it.

dillfly2000 11-20-2018 05:38 PM

Deactivated fully years ago. MySpace did it better.

rowan 11-20-2018 06:12 PM

Recently my news feed has been littered with "Popular on Facebook" posts which are basically trending clickbaity viral videos that have nothing whatsoever to do with my friends, groups or pages.

Facebook is progressively becoming more and more derpy. The question is, whether it's changing to match the increasing idiocy of its userbase, or whether the users are being dragged down in a race to the bottom.

There's a good chance that peppering news feeds with random viral videos will improve engagement, and therefore revenue... but it almost seems like desperation.

Why are you lying again?

You are considered an "active user" even if you don't use Facebook but a 3rd party uses your Facebook ID to login or share, via the third party service.

If you use the messenger app at least once in 30 days, you're a Facebook "active user" even if you haven't logged into Facebook for 10 years, but still have a Facebook profile.

I use my Facebook ID to login to Disquss, and I haven't visited Facebook in over a year. Facebook considers me an "active user" of Facebook.

"We define a monthly active user as a registered Facebook user who logged in and visited Facebook through our website or a mobile device, used our Messenger app (and is also a registered Facebook user) or took an action to share content or activity with his or her Facebook friends or connections via a third-party website or application that is integrated with Facebook, in the last 30 days as of the date of measurement."

Facebook Changes Definition of Monthly Active Users

Guess why Facebook changed its definition of an "active user" to be extremely broad and include people who never use Facebook anymore.

Guess why Facebook got busted hiring an Indian company to click on people's Facebook ads.

Guess why Facebook "miscalculated" , by 80%, the amount of time people spend watching videos.

Facebook Overestimated Key Video Metric for Two Years

Facebook is shady as fuck and constantly misrepresenting their numbers in BIG ways because Facebook is dying.

For $200 bucks you can buy 2,000 active Facebook profiles.

FB solved the 2 biggest problems of any website: traffic and content

How? It shifted both to the user

I don't see FB completely dying out any time soon

True.. But this was already a model that was being developed long before FB. User generated content from high quality social site in niche categories were doing this and (at the time) were doing fine.

Having the users create the content (text, images, videos, live streams, syndication, etc.) is a great idea because each user becomes the traffic source and content provider.

This was well known before FB became what it is today.

The problem with FB is it is a monopoly and due to this it is very hard to compete with them. Even as a website developer I encounter potential clients telling me that "We already have a FB page and it's free, so no need to invest in our own website".

What the average user does not know is what it actually 'costs' them.

I don't think it will die, I just want it to.

Well, FB solved it in a way that was sustainable and SCALABLE. How? Enabling people to share their STATUS

babeterminal 11-25-2018 08:18 PM

and he still didnt pay any of us for the pre api apps

you remember those, invite 10 friends or you can not use the app

Paul Markham 11-26-2018 05:17 AM

This is what will effect FB in the future. https://www.independent.co.uk/life-s...-a8465101.html

Now people have more options to share their banal news it can only mean they have to share the traffic. We all know that, to our expense.
