Neighbor LFO Member Dies at 41
Devin Lima, a member of rap/pop group LFO, died this morning at 41. Originally from New Bedford, Massachusetts, he sang locally and was a sweet kid back then with a great sense of humor. I met him once in the early 90’s at Buttonwood Park. A bunch of us walked over to hear him at his sister’s invite.
After the music, we all drove to a pizza place. I didn’t talk to him as I was shy, but as we left he said something in Portuguese. I asked what he said, he said he asked me “et tu portuguez “ or “do you speak Portuguese.” I said I was sorry but no. He laughed and explained that since I didn’t talk during lunch, I must only speak Portuguese, “like all the portageez” here. (Portageez is the ethnic insult of Portuguese). Everyone laughed and we talked for a few minutes. I admitted I liked classic rock and hardcore rap but his music I wasn’t really into. He admired my honesty and talked about doing more music but a harder edge than pop. Said they appealed to young girls so would milk it until they could change and if not successful, was saving every penny for the future. He had a good brain for a younger kid and thought of the future. They were working on their album but he realized the grueling future was tiring and producing albums might be a better future. I felt he did it for money for his future but knew careers wouldn’t last. He’s the second band member to die, from illness and not drugs/alcohol. RIP. Bom dia, Devin Lima. |

(CNN)Devin Lima, a member of the popular pop group LFO, died Wednesday after battling cancer, his mother told Us Weekly. Lima was 41. "My son has passed away," Filomena Lima told Us Weekly. "His fiancée was living with him and let us know that he passed at 2:45 in the morning. He was struggling for 13 months since his cancer diagnosis. The family is not good." In that video he looks like every 20-something Portuguese guy! Dark hair, dark eyes and the Mediterranean look that is different from Italian. The group and he weren’t big stars but CNN covered it. Adrenal cancer and he knew the diagnosis was death. You make it big and think life is forever with champagne wishes and caviar dreams. Six kids. Probably all pre-teen or younger. |
