Who is going to buy an asset that it is decreasing their traffic volume and banning their main contributors? and specially why? that was one of the bigges traffic assets of yahoo.

This is pretty unfortunate.

Tumblr was such a great resource for finding tons of traffic and a great stream of revenue for affiliate links. I've built up backlinks for websites that go back years and years through them. Getting connected with amateur content makers was super easy, too.

Also, this move is just absolutely stupid for their business model. Practically everyone that I know uses Tumblr more than anything else for their porn consumption. This move is just going to completely kill off what Tumblr is.

I guess now it's all going to migrate over to Reddit or…?

meh, every service out there uses sex workers to get popular then ditches us once they get entrenched, it's a fun and lucrative game for everyone but those trying to ethically sell adult long term.

I suspect the 2257 issue is a significant factor in this decision, that and those who use services for dine and dash spamming crap expecting to get axed. No one wants to see endless ads anywhere. Unless it's on TNT JA which helps me learn Spanish :upsidedow

But about the 2257 issue, I remember I took a pic in 2014 (right before I left Canada, my boxes for shipping were all artfully arranged behind me) for a client after a session where my hair was slicked back with sweat, face glistening with same and the way the cam caught me the end result made me look 12.

I was born in the 70's, I don't look 12 and didn't then, it was just a play of light off a sweaty face*. Plus I felt good so the jaded bitterness of enduring life for decades had temporarily left my eyes

Social media is filled with stuff with NO age verification, how can you ever tell how old someone is in a pic or gif? Women in high fashion magazines are often children, some as young as 15 and they are dressed and made up to look like an idealized 20 year old.

I've never relied on free sources of traffic as someone in adult for anything expecting it to endure. It can't.

But yeah, they do use us and cast us off to create a 'safe community'. all of them, same with processing systems like paypal or gr :disgust

Truth is, despite this really bullshit recurring phenomenon I can see tumblr's reasoning. no way would I let that stuff (adult content without 2257 docs) appear on a website I own. It's not responsible.

Not a big loss for me as I have ignored my tumblrs for years and really only ever hit with two niches that I do much better with elsewhere.

If I were you this is what I would do:

a) Get a bunch of free domains (yes they exist at least for a year)

b) Move your tumblr to that domain.

c) Make a 301 from all the urls your tumblr have to the new domain.

d) Re estart your PBN.

e) extre points if you go out right now and buy for cents the tumblrs that will be available now that people see the sky is falling

What I loved about Tumblr, is all the reblogs from other tumblr blogs...I can't believe their doing this. Who's gonna use Tumblr now - fans of cats in space photos, artsy cartoons maybe ?

There's a lot of porn on Tumblr but as a proportion of total content on the platform it's smaller than most commenters in this thread think.

Most of the big players moved on to AI-powered bots on Tinder and Grinder.

Tumblr was never intended to be a porn site.

Like most platforms porn migrated to it. Like most platforms porn has been removed from it.

I think this is a good thing.

Porn should be limited to porn sites, sites which have been established for adults.

Despite assertions otherwise, Porn is a small percentage of overall Tumblr content. Tumblr, through it's apps is stronger now that porn is going. They'll be accepted on App Stores without an issue once porn is gone. Moderation will be simpler and the platform's strengths will outweigh the loss of porn.

Twitter should get rid of porn, it would reduce the moderation cost of the platform. However unlike Tumblr, Twitter has a mostly working sensitive content filter, so unless you specifically opt in or follow porn related accounts it can be hard to stumble across porn on Twitter.

It's an opportunity for someone to create a new platform, I have no doubt people somewhere in Montreal are already on it ready to fill it with 300x250 banners :-)

I am not surprised at all. I stopped invested the time into building the Tumblr blogs years ago.

Once you get big your competitors report you regularly for non violations and it's only a matter of time before they get a lazy admin that blocks you without 2 thoughts once you get blocked it's hard to get someone else to look at it and reverse it. Fuck Tumblr

One interesting thing to come out of this is seeing Tumblr try to use automated moderation tools so badly.
