How can users monetise their use of this site?

True, you have to make it worth while for anyone to consider joining, unless your blog is getting a ton of traffic a day. Otherwise you just another website.

Unless I'm wrong it looks like a pin-board without outbound links.

Yes, you wrong. Your site depends on the design+content. You can make tube site or pin site or blog.

Yeah :) You can add banners.

Blogr got nuthing to offer. It's not even SSL protected and way too much spam adverts.

If you wanna succeed you gotta do this without ads for 2 or 3 years to generate some noticing power. If you can stay that long then maybe add some small ads here or there.

Like that Blogr just looks like a site that will die once you get hit by 3 bots at the same time.
