Here in Canada, radio stations have banned the son "Babe it's Cold Outside" because its now inappropriate.


And just now while working late, I'm listening to a Doors album and "Back Door Man" comes on. It's a song I've heard a hundred times before but now the lyrics are making me nervous:

"The men don't know, but the little girls understand", and the line "I eat more chicken than any man ever seen." - "Chicken" in the 60's was slang for (white) pussy.

Do you think we going to start seeing more and more classic songs get banned just because times, they-are a changin'?

I dunno man, the problem with these soundbite phrases is that they preclude nuance in lieu of something monolithic that encapsulates everything to do with social position/identity when that should not be the case. or if it should be I'm going to start calling all plants trees.

so what exactly is political correctness? is it social change that is more inclusive and respectful of the vast spectrum of humanity or is it people getting hung up on bullshit designed to cloud real issues. guess I'd argue it's both

for example, sure many of us have seen those old cartoons watched by children in NA back in the day that portray Japanese, German, Black peeps and women of any social race or class as subhuman

is it 'politically correct' to not fill impressionable heads with the hangovers of the past or is it a progressive strategy of humanity-enhancement that we're no longer ok with peeps on tv being characterized as imbeciles or devils based on physical characteristics?

is it 'politically correct' to think, wow, so you were walking home from the club in a short dress and got raped, not your fault rather than "that hussy had it coming flaunting her physical being all over the place like a person"

as to the banned song, I think that's ridiculous. that video portrays an era and I can't fathom a chica I know today putting up with that shit. by the end of the first verse anyone I know would be in a cab heading to the club to find someone fun and respectful to par with.
