He was designing a coal powered car, until someone slightly smarter told him those used to be called trains back in the olden days.
Of course, he doesn't like electric cars. Because liking them doesn't help perpetuate the facade he's trying to maintain of being anti-progressive, anti-liberal. Donald Trump is not a Republican. It's the role he's playing to get him through this part of his life and that's about as far as his "ideology" goes. He really doesn't care one way or another about coal or electric cars. He only cares about what will stuff money into his pocket at this moment.
