Anyone else been cut off by OVH/SoYouStart/Kimsufi?

Was surprised late last year when one of my servers was suspended for non payment.

Turned out they had not been mailing invoices. They cut me off even though they had not actually requested payment.

Support said it was a problem that was fixed, but it's now a couple of weeks later, and I still haven't received any invoices. (I've reported this and it's being fixed "again")

Just a heads up. Anyone else run into this issue?

They miss invoices sometimes, I don't know why.

I have a lot of servers with both OVH & So You Start so I have added my credit card to OVH and it bills automatically.

For both platforms I regularly log in - so when logged in I will check all the renewals on servers (they display the renew date).

I've never had an issue with auto payments on OVH though.

I had that issue in the past when I used them, normally pretty quick to get them going again but I wish they would try a phone call or something first. At that time they didn't have recurring billing, hopefully they do now.

When I had servers there, never had any issues.

Hmm, interesting. According to Paypal, OVH have standing permission to take payment as needed, but I've always had to pay manually.

To confuse things further, a "bill" doesn't show up until you've actually paid it. It's more like a receipt. But without that email, there's no request to pay!

I can't find anywhere in the control panel to set up payment options?

I'd say it's because they have a simple renewal model:

1. If you don't pay by the renewal date, your service is cut off
2. If you want to cancel a server, simply don't pay

#2 would be why they don't attempt to contact customers before cutting them off.

Luckily I noticed the suspension email pretty quickly, but my server was still disconnected for a few hours. Through no fault of my own.

Are you on the new OVH control panel that has dedicated, cloud, sunrise etc?

indienudes 01-02-2019 08:50 AM

they didn't implement automatic billing until late in the year last year, so everything had to be manual.

Im always logged into the admin area, so I would always renew manually.

the only thing bad about ovh is support takes days to reply. other than that the servers and control panel are the best.

I think they have an irc channel on free node that has some employee's there, might want to go there for a quicker response.

I have a support number to call, but that may be because I am account managed. I have over 30 servers at OVH.

Yeah, it's only OVH that have recurring billing and only on the new panel.

My SYS servers I just renew manually.

Why did you drop them and where did you move to after?

Tickets are not answered ...

For a client , I updated his VPS to a higher storage option ... Was supposed to be done right away, live, without human intervention : server was off line for 3 days with no response from support . Only once contacted on phone did they fix it, telling me that the upgrade is not automated ....

Aside from fuck-ups like this, price is good if you know how to manage a server or VPS.

That makes a lot of sense, which I appreciate. I don't use them for important websites, but for pushing bandwidth on various marketing work, which normally lasts a few months. Used them on and off for many years.

NatalieMojoHost 01-04-2019 07:06 AM

Wow, that's harsh. At MojoHost we email numerously, call, skype, gfy, facebook and tweet to people before taking a server down for non-payment.

Paul&John 01-04-2019 12:58 PM

I got an OVH VPS virtual server thingy and no probs so far.
