As I understand it his mansion is located in the "power elite" district. Only the wealthiest people in the area can live there. So none of them probably have any problem with all that security. They probably welcome it.

Its said that Obama charges up to $400,000 per speech. Just a few bookings is all it takes to make him rich. Add to that Michelle's speaking engagements, their book deals, appearances, etc. They're making money just like every other celebrity in America is making.
