Anybody is using WordPress as CMS for members areas?

For most member's areas: yes its possible. You may need to custom code some stuff depending on your business model, but your goal should still be achievable.

Is there a pre-made solution for your needs? Without knowing what you intend to do exactly, that is hard to tell. Start by using some of the Member Area plugins wordpress has and go from there.

If its just a standard MA, why not use a pre-built solution like Elevated X?

We did it for some clients years ago, but i really recommend you to use elevatedx
