Why are you guys assuming this is a left/right thing with Brazil? It was and has always been a corruption issue. Bribes for olympic bids and building, overspending on that bullshit. Embezzlement from elected officials so bad that the nation has been run into the ground.

Russia could use a clean up. Our level of corruption is on par with African countries.

The problem with democracy is that an uneducated vote is worth just as much as an educated one...populists win because of keyword optimization aimed at dumb people and negative partisan voters...while it is true that everybody deserves a vote, it is also true that uneducated votes give uneducated results...the best way to get dumb people to vote for you is to promise magic beans...
