Google Analytics Replacement

If you have a nice quick server preferably with some SSD storage then Matomo (formerley Piwik) is now a credible alternative to Google Analytics.

https://matomo.org

A 4096MB Digital Ocean or Vultr Droplet is big enough to run it and it will reduce your reliance on Google and you keep your data to yourself.

What's the difference between this and Google Analytics?

Well this you host yourself, Google Analytics is hosted by Google.

All your data stays in your hands only with this, Google shares your data.

This gives you a very nice overview of all your sites at once glance, Google Analytics is clumsy doing that.

This allows you to track non JavaScript visitors with better accuracy.

You own the data, not Google. :2 cents:

Getting 'CLEAN' analytics got to be more trouble than it was worth with google.
So, I just use awstats now. No, there is not a lot of demographic data outside of geoip but I found googles not as accurate as as it should be even after busting out all the bad data/bots. Then all the extra time to re-learn their interface about once a year

King Mark 01-07-2019 10:47 PM

Nothing is better than piwik (matomo). Awstats is a close second lol. I've tried them all. That and revive-adserver are must haves for me.

I'm still using a kind of old Piwik at this point and I like that my data is private and I don't have to re-learn the UX.

matomo.org will be good for self hosted.

No you won't become a Google Analytics competitor but you will own your data.

Paul&John 01-08-2019 02:10 AM

I might give it a try, statcounter is kinda lame (however I like the dashboard where the basic stats are visible for all the sites for a quick overview).

One thing I don't like about Google Analytics is that I find it pretty hard to use. The fact that its endlessly customizable makes it harder for me, not easier somehow. What I want is a single screenshot that instantly shows me everything I care about.

Anyway, interesting product! I will check it out.

(Yay business thread!)

wixar 01-09-2019 01:15 AM

We use matomo too, it's powerful ;)

you need to create custom report and set it in dashboard, idk how but people have done that.

Matomo is simple yet powerful. I like the All Websites dashboard it has, where I can tell at a glance how many visits I have had and the page views and trending performance of those sites.

That allows me to make decisions quickly and know in just a moment how the day is trending at any given point in time.

Check it out, I think you will like it.
