The Wall

The great Wall stretching from the Pacific ocean to the gulf of Mexico.

Do you support it? Do you not support it?

Can we have a logical debate about it? Without emotion or racist leanings?

I personally think a wall is a bad idea because:

-its going to cost a lot of money and is not going to stop illegals from coming in and doing what they do (make money to send elsewhere, drug mules, etc). Operations will just shift back to the east coast/carribean like the good ol 80's.

-for the LEGAL asylum seekers (the caravan, etc that most have no idea are different than illegal immigrants) are the only ones that really utilize "the wall" as a point of entry lol. Those folks ARE NOT from mexico and will just come through the carribean.

-since focus has shifted to the southern border, illegal crossings from Canada has surged. We going to build a wall there too?

I see the wall as a waste of time, money and resources. Those who hire illegals should be severely punished for giving them the reason to be here. Those who employ illegals are literally just handing out money over to other countries for slave labor, they ignore the cries from the poor folks who wanted to pick grapes their whole life just to be displaced by a illegal mexican. Build a wall around (prison) the real reasons people keep coming here illegally.

It's a bad idea. It's going to cost a lot of money and will not be effective.

Look at the end result of the Secure Border Fence Act Of 2006, which Democrats voted for. This bill built fencing and barriers for over 600 of the 2000 border. Illegal immigration declined, but it declined at the same steady pace it had been declining since 2000.

The majority of the problem happens at the ports of entry. Hiring more agents of US Customs would be a better idea.

At this point the idea of "building a wall" is more of a sound bite than anything else, a vanity project Trump wants to get done if only to say he accomplished a campaign promise.

really more than anything though I'm irked that magga is now considered a misspelling of the trumpian acronym :disgust

apologies, no disrespect intended. carry on with the rational and productive discussion and show your prez how it's done

It's never going to happen. The logistics of building this thing are nearly impossible.

New roads will need to be built to transport the materials.

New towns and housing will need to be built for slave workers who will be in the middle of nowhere building this monstrosity. And who the fuck will be doing this? Cheap Mexican labor or highly skilled, highly paid American construction experts?

And guess who will get the contracts for the cement. Cemex, which is the only company close enough to deliver the concrete. And guess what...they're a Mexican company (Cement + Mexico). So it looks like Mexico is not only NOT paying for the wall --- they will make money from it.

The cost has been predicted to be way higher than Trump's estimate... closer to 30 billion. That means it would be double 30 billion because when has any government project come in under time and budget?

Then you have the probability that Trump will be gone before the project is even underway, so it'll get axed by Republicans who were previously shitting in their pants about Trump unleashing Twitter on their pathetic weenie asses. They'll grow balls after he either resigns, is thrown out of office, gets beaten in 2020 or eats a lead salad.

This wall will never exist so all of this clown show is just a giant waste of time that's affecting the lives of thousands of people.

Fuck!!!This shit makes me mad.

Walls don't work. That's why we don't have walls in the world. No civilization has ever built walls to protect or secure anything and they never will.

A wall is a medieval technology. Kind of like what you are.

A coast to coast wall may not be the solution. But the border clearly needs strengthening in places. That also means more guards if they can be hired if not more electrical surveillance.

The responsibility of a government is to secure the borders of it's country.

Another measure that's badly enforced is the fines and imprisonment of employers who give jobs to illegals. For way too long cheap labour has been enforced on the working class and this is made easier if there are millions of illegals to add to the workforce.

Then sub-contract Mexican companies to do it, hire migrants, import the steel from China, pay no one, declare bankruptcy, pocket the cash, Blame Obama.

Is that enough to build or rebuild a partial wall where it's needed?

In the state of Arizona, in the past month, they have uncovered three tunnels - one just miles from where Trump was. In the El Chapo trial this week, drug runners testified that they don't smuggle drugs through the desert - They smuggle drugs across the border every way they can except for through the desert. They all go through ports of entry.
