Wow! GM says hybrids are over, reboots Cadillac as an electric vehicle leader

Amazing!!!

Quote:

General Motors essentially put a fork in hybrids on Friday and announced that Cadillac will lead its upcoming electric vehicle charge in the United States.

GM President Mark Reuss revealed the first information about the company’s third-generation battery-electric platform, which will launch with a new Cadillac model that will be the first of many. He described it as being able to accommodate front-, rear- or all-wheel-drive and a variety of battery sizes using an “ice cube tray” design that allows for a different number of cells to be installed, depending on a particular model’s requirements.

Even China has set in place restrictions that will force their own automakers to build electric. The only people on the wrong side of all this is the "usual's...

AKA Republicans and dumb right wingers.. Trump & Republicans are trying to pull the rug out from under America at a pivotal time in history all so they can get campaign donations from big oil and cold. They will set our country behind the world, we were at the forefront and Trump & Republicans will put us at the end of the line..

Yep the big auto makers are starting to catch up.

Not only GM... I just bought a new Rubicon Jeep Wrangler, and in 2020 there will be an electric Jeep Wrangler!

It was a non starter really. I had a Ford Escape hybrid in San Diego, the worst car/suv i have ever owned. Sold on the premiss that it would do 36mpg with its gas/electric engine and i never got more than 25mpg which was less than the gas only version. :321GFY

Actually, the whole world benefits from green energy.

And Lithium is only the electrolyte in a battery. The rest of the battery is made of Graphite, Aluminum, etc which comes from other parts of the world.

I didn't say that. I said the whole world can benefit. Less pollution = cleaner air and water.

In the end everything just will be more polluted cause of the grow of China where everybody wants a car and where they open a dozen more airports.

Due to the cost of lithium and other metals when everybody goes electric, most will drive gasoline.

yes, Chile is to stable and rich now. By doing it the Venezuelan or Argentinian way destabilize the country and the prices of Lithium will drop. Argentina sure can use the money, they hit a new crisis before the last was over.

Better if everyone uses an electric car than a gasoline car, no?

No.

People driving cars for their personal use is negligible in the big picture.
Just compare it to what ONE aircraft carrier does to the environment vs. ALL the cars driven by people for personal use.

No, people could keep driving gas cars forever and it won't change anything. Especially modern cars. Compared to the cars that used carburaters, no emissions controls on exhaust, leaded gas, etc. todays gas powered cars are incredibly clean for the environment.

When I get an electric car...it won't have a damn thing to do with the environment. It will be because it's fast as hell and looks cool.

That's called the free market. And that's the way they need to advertise them. Trying to shove stuff down people's throats just won't work.
But make them sexy and hot?
I'm in!
