Would you live in the Ozarks?

I'm looking at another house that is on a decent sized lake in North Arkansas. The house is cheap as fuck for a waterfont property, comes with a pontoon boat. It's 2 level 3 bed 2 bath with a deck across the entire back on the upper level which makes a covered deck on the lower level. It needs to be updated inside but for the money it would be hard to lose.

The area is near Spring River which is supposed to be a hot spot for fisherman from what I understand and it's in a deed restricted area so no hillbilly shacks around it. I'm thinking of buying it to run my ebay/amazon business out of because it has a unfinished area on the lower floor that I can turn into a mini warehouse.

The problem is it's in the middle of fuck all no where.. However this is the key deal for me.. It's 6hrs from Nashville, TN, 4.5hrs from Dallas, TX, 6hrs to St. Louis, MO, 12hrs to Denver, CO, 8hrs to Chicago, IL.

This is all good for me to do quick road trips for sourcing. The problem is, it's still in the middle of fuck all and I dunno if I want to live full time in the middle of fuck all. (although the area is awesome with all the lakes, streams, mini mountains and forests.

Life is too short to live in a place that you don't want to be.

You answered your own question.

I think you need a little bit more diversity...how about Baltimore?

Not that I don't want to be there so much, but more about lack of things to do that cater to more modern taste.. Outdoor activities it's great.

Not knowing squat about the area, is there at least basic civilization nearby? Places to buy food, some restaurants/bars, some non-lake things to do, medical (get a prescription filled, see a doctor, get blood work, ER, etc.).

Yea, it's probably 30 mins from a small town with stuff like a walmart, McDonalds, small hospital ect.. type of place but about a hour from the closest decent size city in either AR or MO. I mean you can get cable TV there and internet so it's not total backwoods in middle of Montana, Maine or something.

Beautiful it looks like paradise!

Regarding your eBay business. most places out in the middle of nowhere it doesn't get mail delivered to their homes you have post office box at the post office free have to pick up and send mail. With that being a big negative for you?

Yea, I'd have to do runs to the PO (I do that now), but honestly I'm eventually getting away from ebay and going mostly Amazon FBA. I don't want to store stuff & ship every item like I do now.

The idea with being in the middle of all those cities, is I can run out do a quick 2-3 days sourcing trip get stuff come back ship it all to Amazon.

One problem you might run into is running the business from there.. I have a similar setup.. Lake property for living/relaxing.. Business + living quarters for biz in town.. I'm moving biz further out of town closer to lake property now though. No reason to pay more for "location, location, location" when you do online biz

As far as would I? Sure, if I wanted to live in AR. My property is on Center Hill which is somewhat similar to Lake of Ozarks. Lake in mountainous area..

Rochard 02-24-2019 11:22 AM

So long as you have Internet go for it.... why wouldn't you?

Well, I'm not specifically looking to be in AR and I wouldn't of considered it before truck driving.. However AR has a very nice mix of very nice "clean" rivers/lakes and mountain areas and the temperature range is pretty decent year round. Also properties are cheap as fuck.

Lake of Ozarks type place is too touristy for me but this area has the same feel to it with out the touristy stuff.

Internet is a issue I'm worried about. That area only has 1 provider and it's Centurylink which sucks from what I've heard, but no experience with them. If no good internet then that would of course be the deal breaker.

beerptrol 02-24-2019 11:38 AM

It comes down to are you a city person or country person. Followed by does it have good and reliable internet access and cost of living. I mean it's not like you're moving to a trailer park where onwebcam lives

GAMEFINEST 02-24-2019 11:54 AM

I would, but where is the pussy?

TheSquealer 02-24-2019 12:13 PM

I had the random impulse just yesterday to look up Lake of the Ozarks on google maps, remembering the line from the Netflix series where Jason Bateman's character makes some claim about how much shoreline there is. Holy Shit... over 1000 miles of shoreline.

astronaut x 02-24-2019 12:22 PM

Watch out for the snells and the langmores.

TheSquealer 02-24-2019 01:12 PM

On a serious note.... I've lived in many places in the world, and was fortunate to be able to travel a lot.

There are a few places i've been to in my life or lived in where I woke up in the morning with the feeling each day of "I'm home".

If i was going to make a decision to move to one place and stay there and make a large financial commitment, for me personally, I would use that test. I would stay there for a while, get to know the area well and see how I feel about it well after the novelty wears off. In the beginning we only see the up sides. Once the novelty wears off, you see the down sides.

CurrentlySober 02-24-2019 01:21 PM

Too dangerous if you ask me. There's a lot of drug production, murders and money laundering going on there...

I watched a documentary about it on netflix...

I still haven't watched the second season. I did watch Murder Mountain on Netflix last week. That was pretty interesting to see how the back woods weed operations were run with law enforcement knowledge..

That is the issue i have living in bumfuck nowhere. My nearest neighbor is 4.7 miles away which is great, but all i have is Hugesnet internet which costs $120 a month for just 30 gigs or about 5-6 netflix videos. If i could get Spectrum i would be like a pig in shit. But they want $45,000 to run the line a 600 hundred yards from their nearest access point and the local phone company Fairpoint docent even have internet service available. So be very sure you can get cost effective reliable fast internet before you decide to move !!!
