The increasing sanctions on NK was coming no matter who was in power. Previous administrations have been progressively ramping up sanctions for the past 20 years.

The difference between previous peace attempts and current ones, is that in the past it was believed that giving Kim any sort of martyr status at home, or voice on the international stage would be counter productive

As far as I'm aware as long as Australia sits here doing fuck all, America has no interest in economic, political and possible military invasions of this country based on our protests of your regional exploits. The same certainly can't be said for China. As far as NK goes, if they were ever to take a shot at America I know it would be a very shot lived war and Kim's best scenario would be to get 1 bomb to hit anywhere on the map of the USA.
