I think the Trump defense against Cohen (he's a criminal liar!) is my favorite one of theirs so far. Because, yes, Cohen did plead guilty to lying to Congress which means A) the FBI knew Cohen's claim that Trump did not know of Russian collusion is a lie and that B) anything he says today to implicate Trump (and family) will be fact checked by the FBI and, if not charged with lying again, will mean that Cohen is telling the truth...telling the truth which implicates Trump.

Cohen has every incentive to NOT lie. He already has been sentenced -- which isn't changing. The only thing that can change is adding more years for lying again, so the GOP defense of branding him as a liar won't work this time.

What's amazing is how the Republican party is handling this. The first Republican just asked questions it was clear there was zero interest in getting at the truth, and their only intention was making Cohen look bad and make him out to be a criminal. This is not a trial and the Republican party is not the defense; This is an investigation into the truth. If the Republican party isn't interested in getting the truth then they shouldn't be there.

This is not about protecting the President. It's not about protecting the office of the President. It's about protecting the Republican party. This is about protecting our legal system, protecting the checks and balances of our political system, and protecting our country. The Republican party is just as guilty as Trump is - They have encouraged all of this, and they are protecting a criminal enterprise.
