GOP senators introduce bill to stop Trump from acting like a king

They were far too nice by saying he acted like a king or royalty and not a tryant..

Guess some of the Republicans still have a ounce of respect for balance of power.

They want to strip Trump of emergency powers because he abused it trying to build his stupid wall..

Bladewire 03-13-2019 10:09 AM

One thing to note

"While Lee's measure would not affect Trump's current national emergency declaration, it would apply to future declarations. "

McConnell is doing this to stop FUTURE abuses of the emergency powers by the next Democratic president.

This is not to stop Trump's CURRENT abuse of emergency powers for the wall.

So basically McConnell wants to stop the next Democratic president from using emergency powers for things like healthcare etc., but has no issues with the current Republican abusing the power for a wall.

Hopefully Democrats won't fall for this.

always ulterior motives ....

I think what Trump just did set a very dangerous standard.

What happens when there is an Democratic President is in office and he (she?) declares firearms are a "National Emergency" and sets down new rules about who can and cannot own firearms. What happens when a Democratic President is in office and suddenly declares Healthcare a "National Emergency" and sets news rules that everyone can get medicare?

The President of the United States has wide and sweeping powers which are only to be used in the event of an actual emergency. The President can suspend the U.S. Constitution. But when such powers are used improperly the President needs to be stopped AND removed from office.

Everyone knows there is no national emergency at our Southern Border. Instead, this is a situation that is being handled properly through out the years, and is becoming less and less of a problem every year. Everyone knows this is nothing more than a last ditch effort for Trump to keep a campaign promise.

This needs to be stopped. If it isn't stopped, what happens when a Democratic President takes office?

The loophole will be close so a democratic president won't be able to use it.

This artist chick I know is a good friend of mine and 70-something years old and in 2015 I asked her who she thought would win the next election. She said the Democrats won't win the next election, I asked why, she said because Republicans cheat and the cycle is term terms for each parties POTUS. I had my doubts at the time but it turns out she was right.

When Mitch McConnell has no consequences for breaking the rules and denying Obama his Supreme Court pick then, literally, there's no glue holding the congress together. Whoever controls the Senate controls all of the government.

There was no Senate majority leader position in Congress until 1920 and since then everything in Congress has slowly gone to shit.

One can easily argue that both guns & healthcare are a far bigger national emergency than a few illegals coming across the boarder..

Oh gee.. I should've known Republicans are all vile scumbags...

Pelosi tweeted about them using this tactic..

"In an effort to avoid voting in favor of the House's resolution to terminate Trump’s #FakeEmergency, GOP senators are proposing legislation to allow Trump to violate the Constitution just this once," Pelosi tweeted. "The House will not take up this legislation to give President Trump a pass."

I should of known they would never try to do the "right" thing. It was just a tactic to avoid voting on the House Bill. What pieces of shit..

It's not a shock. McConnell is morally bankrupt.

He's not just morally bankrupt, he's a traitor to this country and our Constitution. Democrats are gearing up to take McConnell out in the next election. His approval rating in his home state is in the 30% range..

McConnell got everything the tea party & the 1% wanted. His job is done after 2020. He'll likely fill RBG's SCOTUS seat as well. Davos is diverting federal funds to Christian private schools that legally discriminate, etc. etc. etc.

Unfortunately McConnell has now set the precedent that if you control the Senate and the executive branch that you control America & laws & oversight don't matter. So whoever fills his place will go along those lines as well. Our government is headed in a very destructive tit of tat One-upmanship that has bastardised the value of the Constitution & Democracy.
