Retro thread - What do you miss from say 10 - 15 years ago in this biz?
I remember every morning checking my sites and trading scripts (UCJ) and ensuring all was good with the MGP's. Fuck it was so easy then!

Yo mamma!
:1orglaugh |
This board used to be full of pictures of naked chicks, chicks who got naked for a living, people having fun, people making money, and people doing business.
Someone the other day told me that "porn is dead". I disagree. I work for YNOT Mail, and just over half of our customers are adult. I speak to pornographers every day, and they tell me how much money they make off of mailers. People are still making money. |

where money is is competition. in this days one medium good media buyer makes the revenue of 50 average webmasters in the old days. and if you look at the bigger media buying companies with 100-200 employed media buyers you might have an idea where the river flows today. also google have learned the lesson and made it harder for amateurs and semi professionals. even to understand google analytics is today a full time job where you can never stop to learn. easy was never good for any kind of biz. easy is too easy to copy and no matter how big the cheese is the number of mice will always be bigger. |

When I started in adult as an affiliate there was a serious "set and forget" mentality going around. Everyone was convinced the way to make money was to create a million sites that you never touch again and just rake in cash forever. Gosh I wonder why that didn't work! For a business to survive and be successful, you must constantly improve said business. Always be working on the next step of that ladder, because if you aren't, somebody else is and they will wipe you out. |

Nowadays I have clients who I have worked with for many years. |
Its hard now.
Quality over quantity |
There was a time from late 1999 to early 2001 I had figured out how to land on the front page of Altavista for just about any adult search term. It would only last a few days, maybe a week, and someone would replace me and I would fall way down the results, but the traffic on those days was great. I just churned out site and after site.
I also miss the almost instant traffic of the TGPs. Submit a gallery on Monday and get 50K+ visitors to it on Tuesday. |
The days when full sex scenes wasn't given away for free and surfers actually had to pay for memberships to view them

Making a killing with just a simple gallery . . .

I miss the currency exchange of 2003. U.S. to Cdn was about $1.40 and every revenue cheque was like found money.

it was the time when 10 million fucking rich surfers where worth 1-2 cent per visit and 10.000 webmasters shared that cake. the difference of their shares where just small. today we talk about 0,0005 value per visit but 4 billion surfers. and the people who want to grab this money are today around 250.000 but from this 250.000 there are not more than 10-15 thsd that take the major part of the cake. so if you calculate that you see that the cake is MUCH bigger than before but also the competition is MUCH smarter. |

we film a 10 to 20 min scene every day, edit it, update my site & every profile with the video and write back to all my fans, then put the cam on and sunbathe most of the day... 10years ago, we run parties, and updating sites without a good back end data base was a pain in the ass... there you go, make money and enjoy it, keeping it simple :thumbsup |

Its quantity over quality...just ask how many tubes there are with 1000's of stolen videos. There, fixed it for ya...:thumbsup |
The money. Back in 2004 it was easy to make $10,000s a week and more for those elite few. Anyone with a brain knew how to create and submit a gallery and get a lot of great traffic.
The huge conventions were proof of how good it was, today it's a lot harder to make a living. To compare media buyers incomes with paysite owners incomes is stupid. |
Miami Internext!!!!!
Bikini Hotties, limos, boats, naked chicks at the pools, hot tubbing until sunrise, big-assed glasses of Mojitos at the TooMuchMedia tent, Jet Skiing, Mansion Nightclub, Sun & Surf, Cirque de Noir... miami04 Miami05 FUBAR Webmasters :: FUBAR Events ...sigh. |

The sound of the Fedex guy dropping my weekly ClickCash cheque on the tiles of my front porch. He didn't bother to try slip it under the door, or knock, just dropped it.
Cost me an extra $30 per week ($1560 per year) to get it delivered express to Australia, but back then, it was worth it. |
The 29 dollar DVDs we used to sell to DVD shops.:2 cents:

The problem with the jizz biz is that almost everyone tries to copy the last person that figured out how to make a buck.
Making a buck in the jizz biz isn't hard. All you have to do is: A. Create something original that the consumer can't get anywhere else B. Figure out how to let the consumer know you've got it C. Figure out how to get your product to the consumer and get his money All anyone has to do is think around the problem and then after they figure out how to do everything they should keep their mouths shut to avoid the copy cats devaluing their product. |
This place. Back then. Now. Fucked.
