Vladimir Putin is warning the West that the biggest beast in his fearsome military arsenal – known as Satan-2 – is close to deployment. Other deadly new-generation weapons – the Kinzhal hypersonic missile and the Peresvet laser system – have been put on “combat duty” already, he claimed.

“The final tests involving the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile have been a success,” he said, according to the Kremlin’s official translation. The Sarmat – known in the West as Satan-2 – is seen as Russia's most powerful nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile. Initial Russian news reports of Putin’s words at a promotion and awards ceremony for senior officers translated him as saying final tests of the missile were “proceeding successfully”. This is reflected by Putin’s words on video.

Moscow says Satan-2 can evade the United States’ defence shield and is capable of destroying an area the size of England and Wales — or Texas.

The last time I met with a group of Russians was April of last year in Europe. They seemed like good people, but you can tell that the country is chaotic right now. They have that sort of defensive eastern european posturing arrogance as a thin cover over deep insecurity. BUT ... some of them are genuinely nice, which augers well for the country. Putin is a far-seer and is playing a long game, which is funny, because he's mortal like anyone else. I wonder what his scientists are telling him.

I've met a lot of Russians in real life. All of them were really good people. A couple we're cool. All of them did great business I never got fucked over. The models that I've shot that are Russian are great I'm shooting one again next week or the week after. They thanked God they were able to get out of Russia and said they would never go back unless they had to. These are Russians I've met over the last 20 years in Australia when I lived there and here in America.

The Russians I've encountered online have been complete arrogant hateful assholes.

This tells me that the people of Russia are good people just like Americans but unlike Americans the people living in Russia would rather be living somewhere else. And living there makes some very resentful negative and hateful while they're there.

Only 2 things have prevented nuclear war up to this point. Now, for the first time in history, those 2 things are no longer relevant.

First thing is: mutual assured destruction. Russia's hundred-megaton nukes can rain down all over the USA before the launch codes for a counter-strike can be entered.

Second thing is: basic revulsion to doing such a horrible thing to humanity as nuking them. But consider this: how much revulsion could Russians feel about nuking a nation that practices infanticide? Quite the contrary, they may feel they're doing the world a favor.

If (and when) this happens, it won't be a war. It will be a one-sided annihilation. We're closer to that, and more ignorant to that fact, more now than ever.

But let's try not to think about whether its best to be at ground zero, or to be slowly starving/freezing to death. Let's keep beating that collusion horse instead, as we bury our heads in the sand. At least we have our priorities straight.
