He's probably left handed. Sinestra is Latin word for "left" and the basis of the word "sinister" and the Green Lantern villain Sinestro.

A lot of old movies will give a hint who the bad guy is by showing them using their left hand. Of course, we know Thanos is the bad guy - at least to our way of thinking, but I doubt it is by accident.
