Question for iPhone users... (No Poo - Serious question please)
If I put a video file on my server and the link is myserver.com/video.mkv and I click on that link on my android, it asks me do I want to use chrome, or my video player. If I click video player the video file starts playing as expected.
Does it work the same on an iPhone as it does for me, or does the iPhone user need to download VLC first? (Something about apple not playing nice with .mkv files by default) Just to add, this is a personal file, with the link just being sent to one single person (family Member) who has an iPhone. I wanted to check first before I send the link, as its kinda birthday surprise message, and I hope that it will work first time like on my galaxy and not turn into a huge fuck around. If I need her to d/l VLC first, that's fine, I can have her do that, but I don't wanna make her do it if not needed, and likewise wanna have her view the file with as little messing about as possible :) Thanks in advance :thumbsup |
What I've done to help someone test it for me, is to download a 10mb sample video, same resolution and format from https://sample-videos.com/ and place it on my server in the same way. Link is:
www.leocaprice.com/B.mkv Would someone be brave enough to click the link on an iPhone and tell me what happens please? Nothing dodgy - Just an animated bunny hopping about... Obviously Im not gonna link to the real file as its personal. Thanks :thumbsup |

Same with android, says 10 mb of poo, save as or open with toilet app. IF you want it to stream you probably need to embed it in a streamable format like .mpoo4

OK so I converted it to .mp4 via handbrake - Does it work on iPhone now please?
www.leocaprice.com/B.mp4 Thanks in advance :) |
On my Nokia running Android 9, it automatically downloads it and then gives me the option to open it, then asks what I want to open it with (confusingly with "Photos" being the option that plays it)

All good now I think - According to my research, If I make it .mp4 it looks like it will be fine cause its the browser thats showing it.
The person that make the file sent it to me as an mkv because they had no problems viewing it on android (like me) with the built in player being offered to them. I'll just convert it :) Thanks to all who tried to help :) |
